Subscription model is failing....Prime and Zee5 adding rent model is an outcome of failing subscription model.

One way a subscription model can succeed is if they add some regularly updating sections....for example in newspapers, there is comics section which updates daily, weekly etc.

TV channels follow subscription model...they are successful because each time slot is regularly updating.....example, 7pm-8pm is "Cartoon Hour" on a channel....everyday in this time slot you can watch new cartoons....people look forward to what will come in this time-slot.

So you have to give people something to look forward to or wait for every day or every week.

Tv chs and OTT platforms subscription model is entirely different buddy. Incase of TV chs u r paying minute fraction of money thru subscription be it in bouquet or little bit more thru standalone basis but compared to OTT it is far far less. Both in TV and OTT freemium model is the best, TV chs already do that and they r mostly supported by ad revenue. OTT platforms need to apply the same formula. Certain niche and new content can remain to b subscription exclusive.

What i feel is people should pay more for news content so that channels or publications can continue doing free n fair reporting rather than being dependent on TRP and ads which acts as barriers in true journalism.

While Sony Liv has started to tie-up with telecom operators like Hotstar and Amazon to offer bundled premium subscription to prepaid mobile customers which is a huge customer base. Here Netflix is still stuck with postpaid plans of which most users already has broadband plans which most likely has a Netflix plan. If you cannot capitilize with mobile internet booming in India. You cannot succeed in any country.

And they are still not offering Netflix Subscription in Jio Fiber 999plan though they have reduced they subscription plans, if not 4K or 1080p atleast they should provide 720p resolution subscription with that plan
