Following the rollouts for the Moto X Style, Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Play, and Moto X (2nd gen), Motorola has started pushing out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto G (3rd gen).

This iteration of the company's best selling smartphone ever was launched in July, and as is usual for the G line it pairs a decent price with decent specs.

The update is rolling out over-the-air in the US and Canada, currently only for handsets purchased unlocked and SIM-free. That said, the Marshmallow release is bound to spread to other versions of the 3rd gen Moto G soon.

If you own a Moto G (3rd gen) and get the update notification, you are apparently looking at a 2GB download, so it's probably best if you grab it via Wi-Fi. After applying it, you'll be on software version 24.11.25.en.US.

The update incorporates Google's security patches created up to December 1, and it obviously contains everything that's new in Android 6.0, including Now On Tap and the revamped permissions system. As previously announced, Motorola is also removing its Migrate and Assist apps in this version.

Moto G 3rd gen Android Marshmallow update begins rollout for India

One of the best bits of writing for Phones Review is being able to inform readers about operating system updates for their devices. If you’re one of our many readers in India and own the very popular Motorola Moto G 2015 there’s some good news for you today. The Moto G 3rd gen Android Marshmallow update has now begun to rollout for India.

The Moto G 3rd gen released running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the update brings it to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This upgrade started rolling out for the phone in the US and Canada a week ago, and now it has arrived for India. The news was announced on Motorola India’s official Twitter account and will bring your phone to software version 24.11.25.en.US.

It’s worth bearing in mind that these updates are usually rolled out in phases so if you haven’t already received it for your Moto G 3rd gen you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer. The update is 2GB in size, and if you can’t remain patient you can always try checking for it manually on your phone under Settings, followed by About Phone, and then System Update.

The update will bring all of the improvements, new features, and changes of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. These include refreshed app permissions, Doze, new UI, new Google Photos, Google Now on Tap, and an updated Chrome browser. It also offers performance optimizations and stability improvements, and as well as this contains Google’s December security patches.

It’s reported that there are complaints on Twitter from users of the Moto G 3rd gen in India saying they have not received the update yet. It appears that some owners of the device have been informed by Motorola customer care that the original tweet was fake. However, this is not thought to be the case and it seems there has been some miscommunication between Motorola’s service support and development teams.

Moto G (Gen 3) Now Receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update in India

Motorola India last week started pushing an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto G (Gen 3) in India. The Indian model XT1550 is now receiving the Marshmallow update over-the-air (OTA). The company confirmed the rollout in a tweet.

The company had last month started rolling out the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its Moto G (Gen 3) users in the US and Canada. As before, the update is about 2GB in size and brings the software version of the smartphone to 24.11.25.en.US. It's worth noting that the Marshmallow rollout notification hasn't popped up on one of our Moto G (Gen 3) handsets hinting that the update is rolling out gradually, and it may take some time to reach users. The Motorola Moto G (Gen 3) users can manually check for update via Settings > About Phone > System Update.

The Motorola Moto G (Gen 3), which was launched in India in July last year running Android 5.1 Lollipop, will receive all the new features included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Android Marshmallow (previously just Android M) brings features such as revamped app permissions; Google Now on Tap feature; Android Pay mobile payment system, and new fingerprint APIs for developers among others. It also features some Google's security patches as well.

Apart from the regular Marshmallow features, Motorola will be also pushing some Moto-specific changes that users will see after updating to the new Android OS version. Some changes to Moto enhancements include removal of Moto Assist feature as part of upgrade to Android M. The company explains that the latest OS includes an option for 'Do Not Disturb' under the 'Sound and notification' settings that performs similar function what Moto Assist does.
