High-end hardware features and an affordable price often don't go hand in hand. Microsoft's devices division hopes to change that by challenging Samsung and Apple. At IFA, on Thursday, Microsoft's Chris Weber took the stage and introduced what he referred to as Microsoft's "affordable flagship" - The Lumia 830. This is a contentious argument as the core
hardware of the phone is decidedly mid-range, but for Microsoft it's the camera that
steals the show on the Lumia 830.

The company claims it's superior to the one found on the Apple iPhone 5S and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The 10-megapixel camera on the back of the device has optical image stabilisation, something the Nokia Lumia 920 introduced
to the market. It's also a PureView camera with ZEISS optics, which means it features the software algorithms found in the cameras of Microsoft's high-end smartphones.
Compared to the iPhone 5S and the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Lumia 830 takes clearer photos in both low-light and daylight, claims
Micosoft. All this is supported with an updated Nokia Lumia Camera app, which now clicks images at a fast clip. On the front it has a 1-megapixel camera.

The phone can also shoot 1080P video with impressive audio as it uses three microphones, which facilitate Nokia Rich Recording. This allows for distortion-free
stereo audio. Microsoft also claims that this is its thinnest Lumia device at 8.5mm.

Apart from this, the Lumia 830 is a mid-range smartphone. It has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, something that's found in phones like the
Moto G and the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Microsoft did not specify the amount of RAM in the phone.
As far as the screen is concerned, it has a 5-inch 720P IPS display. The screen is topped with a curved 2.25D glass. It is also reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and
features super sensitive touch technology.

In the phone, there's a 2,200 mAh battery which also features Qi wireless charging. In terms of design, the phone is a blend of the
Lumia 925 and has the lens disk that makes the Lumia 1020 stand out. The phone also has Sensor Core technology, which works
with wearables like smartwatches.

The Lumia 830 has 16GB internal storage.Users can add more storage by using up to 128GB microSD card.

The phone runs Windows Phone 8.1 with Nokia's latest Denim update. The Denim update makes the Cortana virtual assistant
easier to use with a 'Hey Cortana' voice command. This works like the 'OK Google' command for Google Now on Android
smartphones.

Microsoft is also offering a Lumia selfie app and there are new accessories like screen sharing coaster and a new smart wireless
charging plate that allow for custom notifications via different coloured LEDs.

Microsoft says the phone will ship globally in October for 330 Euros or Rs 26,000 approximately. The Denim update will hit Lumia smartphones in Q4 of 2014. There is currently no word on its release in India.
