Former Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya is all set to take over as the country’s chief selector once again, a year after he stepped down from the job.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala virtually confirmed the news, saying that they were planning to appoint Jayasuriya as the new chairman of selectors in a bid to take the nation’s cricket to a new path.

According to SLC vice president Mohan de Silva, former wicketkeeper-batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana and former off spinner Ranjith Madurasingha will also be a part of the committee, ESPNcricinfo reported.

Jayasuriya, who held the post from January 2013 to March 2015, will replace Aravinda de Silva and is likely to remain in the post up to the 2019 World Cup.

The SLC vice president also insisted that Aravinda's committee, which is due to select the Test squad for the upcoming England tour, would now take the decision in consultation with Jayasuriya.

Under Jayasuriya’s tenure, Sri Lanka have won World T20 and a Test series in England in 2014, before making a quarterfinal exit at the 2015 World Cup.
