I feel it will be like jio tv,channels are internet based instead of iptv just like tataplay binge box when the dth signals are lost.
Not really like jiotv as jiotv aggregates tv channels from ott providers and provides only digital feed of those channels. But airtel iptv is similar to dth feed except over internet and it provides compressed feed for hd channels and it comes under trai NTO pricing whereas jiotv wont. SD channels are mostly uncompressed.Yes. It's not exactly IPTV, just like Jio's implementation as data usage is going to be counted against plan data
Yup absolutely. Whatever airtel does, wont benefit consumers w.r.t pricingNot really like jiotv as jiotv aggregates tv channels from ott providers and provides only digital feed of those channels. Scenario will change after jio entry![]()
Things are about to get more interesting. How many times will Jio enter? Jio already provides almost all TV channels from 599 plan onwards

If bsnl provides IFTV without any issues then it will be real game changer in tier 2 and 3 areas as airtel or jio can't reach those areas anytime soon.Scenario will change after jio entry![]()
So as said earlier it's not going to be a game changer. Most of the areas are uncovered by airtel for FTTH. Relying with airfiber would definitely make it failure.Just now called up regional DTH head for this exact query. He told currently will be launched ONLY for NEW black customers from around 5-6th of this month in metro cities and in the next 2-3 months, all over India. Will need new box and NO app will be required. It's just gonna be like DTH boxes, bootup and simply enter channel number and channel will open. Data used by IPTV WILL BE counted against quota of Fiber/Airfiber. Today itself within 12 days depleted whole 1TB of airfiber dataso obviously wont't suitable for me at least and also average TV viewing household will use up around 150-200 or even upto 250GB data for IPTV if mostly HD channels are watched on an average of 4-5 hours/day. Obviously won't work outside of airtel network. Also, currently NO extra NCF NOC benefits compared to DTH.
Verdict - if you have DTH then keep it. It's the best thing ever. If, for some reason you want to switch to IPTV, make sure you are on Airtel fiber for 3.3TB cap.
Also another verdict - Airtel has become the most money-hungry company, even above Jio
