The main agenda of the meeting will be the key issue of player retentions. There have been varying views on the number of retentions allowed for a franchise. Some argue that continuity is essential, as most franchises have existed for over 17 years now and the number of retentions permitted should be as high as eight. It is being argued that for the sake of fan engagement and brand building, they need to structure their teams around players who are seen as integral to the franchise's image.

There will also be a discussion on the salary cap, which is expected to be around INR 120 crore in the first year of the next three-year cycle. Subsequently, the retention value of each player could also come up for discussion. Previously, the salary of the top retention was around 16-17 percent of the salary cap (INR 15 crore in a salary cap of INR 90 crore).

If the same principle is followed, the salary of the top retained player this time could be around or slightly over INR 20 crore. However, this remains speculative at this stage. The BCCI is expected to explain the formula for determining the salary of the retained players.
