Meanwhile, it has been learned that MS Dhoni's future association with CSK will depend on the number of retentions allowed in the upcoming IPL season. Dhoni and N Srinivasan are believed to have discussed this matter, and the former captain, who has been its face since inception in 2008, could continue to play for the side if the IPL permits a sufficient number of retentions - ideally five or six.
Currently, the players likely to be retained include skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube, though not necessarily in that order. If more retentions are permitted, Dhoni may continue as a player failing which he may take on the role of a mentor, maintaining a significant influence on the team's operations from the dugout rather from the middle of the pitch.
Much will depend on the outcome of the BCCI's meeting with the IPL team owners in Mumbai on July 31. Rupa Gurunath, N Srinivasan's daughter, will attend the meeting.
Srinivasan family will continue to control the IPL team but lose hold in ICL; whether Dhoni will play next season is conditional to number of retentions permitted by BCCI
Kumar Sangakkara is one of the candidates on ECB's radar to replace Matthew Mott as the white ball coach.
If that happens, then Dravid will straightaway join RR, no doubt..
- Impact player rule likely to stay.
- Retention likely 5 or 6 players.
- Likely to allow retain uncapped players.
- Salery purse likely to be increased.
- There might be one RTM for each team.
- Mega auction likely happen in 5 years.
A big discussion has been taking place at the IPL owners' meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Cricbuzz learns that main point of contention is whether to have a mega auction at all. Quite a few voices were against the mega auction, including Kolkata Knight Riders's Shah Rukh Khan.
At one stage, Shah Rukh was believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Punjab Kings. It is understood that Shah Rukh was in favour of retentions while Wadia is believed to be against too many retentions.
