"Amit Mishra is a fantastic call by Gautam and his coaching staff. Look, you don't need to check his skills as he is among the top three wicket-takers of all time in the IPL. Yes, he is 40 years old, isn't the best of fielders and can't hit sixes at the end. But now you don't need to keep him in the playing XI for the entire duration," a domestic coach, who has closely worked with Gambhir, told PTI
"Mumbai Indians might not need Piyush at all at the Wankhede. But if they are playing at the Chepauk, then why not? He is a smart operator, and can still make a difference if he is used judiciously.
Like both Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar could be used by Ricky Ponting in the same innings.
Cricket News: The new rule of having an 'Impact Player' during the upcoming IPL could just be the "second wind" that some of the veteran players require at the end
Staying with the foreign players, it was not lost on the stakeholders that they walked away with the lion's share of funds transacted in Kochi. There was a bit of pondering on the issue and Cricbuzz has learnt that suggestions were made to the BCCI that this can be avoided if the board holds a player draft in place of mini-auctions while continuing with the mega-auctions as per the schedule. This would create a situation of slabs for the players and not result in mad bidding for a few players as witnessed on December 23.
It was also felt that some smart agents of foreign players have understood the tricks of the trade and enrolled a few players in the mini-auction instead of in the mega auction where they would not have commanded such high prices. The BCCI has not exactly reacted to the suggestion but the fact always remained that the Indian board never minced words in acknowledging the contribution of foreign players to the IPL. They have one year to decide.
