Well, hope for the best :)

Apple iPhone 5 available for pre-orders in India

Apple iPhone 5 is now available for pre-orders in India and will start shipping in the first week of November. Online retailer Infibeam has listed the 16GB version of the latest iPhone on its website and is taking pre-orders for advance booking amount of Rs 5,000.

Though Infibeam has not mentioned the price of the device, its iPhone 5 web page states that the remaining amount will be collected from buyers at the time of launch of the device. Buyers will have the option to pay the remaining amount via cash on delivery (CoD), debit card and credit card. According to a company executive, the booking amount will be refunded for those who are unable to pay the full amount at the time of launch.

iPhone 5 is widely expected to be roll out in India in the next few days, although Apple has consistently declined to announce a launch date in the country. According to sources, the company may price the device between Rs 46,000 and Rs 61,000, depending on the variant.

Over the past month, Apple has twice cut the pricing of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S - the two older iPhones, marking a new first with the company. It also discontinued the three-year-old iPhone 3GS, in line with its worldwide practice.

Apple iPhone 5, unveiled on September 12 this year, is the world's fastest selling smartphone and clocked sales of 5 million units over the first weekend. It features a 4-inch touchscreen with Retina Display technology and runs on A6 processor. The phone has Siri digital voice assistant, iOS 6, 8-pin Lightning dock, 8MP iSight rear camera with LED flash and 4G LTE compatibility.

Apple iPhone 5 to hit India on November 2

The much-awaited Apple iPhone 5 will hit Indian retail shelves on November 2, according to sources close to Apple. So far, pricing has not yet been revealed. In the meanwhile, Apple has introduced local Rupee currency pricing for the iTunes App Store.

Redington India and Ingram Micro have been appointed as the master distributors of the iPhone 5, and will be responsible for providing the device to the two Apple carriers (Aircel and Airtel). Other resellers will also be able to procure the iPhone 5 from the two distributors, and sell it with their own markup.

Hence, users can expect pricing to differ across resellers and carriers – however, Apple may end up controlling the pricing. Expected pricing of the iPhone 5 ranges from Rs. 45,000 for the 16GB model, to Rs. 65,000 for the 64GB model. Apple could however, price the 16GB model lower, if it decides on a more aggressive model. U.S pricing for the unlocked 16GB iPhone 5 is $649, translating to roughly Rs. 35,000, excluding duties.

With the new FDI rules, Apple's plans of opening its own retail store in India have been thwarted, with the company required to source 30 percent of its product sales from local companies.

Apple’s introduction of Rupee pricing in its App Store is a boon for both users and developers, with more transparency for both parties when buying and pricing apps. Google has had local currency support on the Google Play store for a while now, but only recently introduced seller support in the country – after a long wait.

According to a TOI report, most of the Indian telecom operators are ready with the Nano SIM cards required by the iPhone 5, so users can expect to start using the device from launch date itself.

Already, almost all Indian carriers are ready with nano SIM cards to support iPhone 5. The demand for the iPhone 5 in India has already been vast, with the device selling well at a massive premium via online retailers who are importing the device, and the grey market. The top-end versions of the device have been famously selling in India for more than Rs. 1 lakh, a staggering investment for a mobile phone.

Currently, the iPhone 5 is available for pre-order on online retail sites such as Infibeam, who are charging a Rs. 5,000 booking amount – and promise to reveal the price only after launch.

Apple iPhone 5 prices start at Rs 45,500 in India

NEW DELHI: Apple iPhone 5, which will be launched in India on November 2, will be priced at Rs 45,500 for the entry-level 16GB model. The 32 and 64GB models will be sold at 52,500 and 59,500 respectively.

The prices have been shared by Redington, one of the two distribution partners of Apple in India, in the country and are in line with the unconfirmed price range that TOI had earlier reported.

Redington and Ingram have also confirmed TOI's Friday report that Apple is set to launch the iPhone 5, its latest smartphone, in India on November 2, 2012. Apple has joined hands with Redington and Ingram Micro to distribute its flagship device in the country.

This is a departure from Apple's earlier strategy of partnering with telecom operators like Airtel and Aircel to retail the phone in India. Redington and Ingram Micro already distribute iPad and iPods in the country.

Considering that the device will not be tied to a few telecom operators only, most telcos in India have readied their stocks of nano-sim cards which can be used only in iPhone 5.

As reported by TOI on Thursday, besides online site Infibeam, another online retailer Saholic has begun taking pre-orders for the 16GB variant of iPhone 5 at Rs 45,500. Infibeam had started taking advance bookings at Rs 5,000, while the remaining amount will be collected at the time of launch.

Apple is yet to launch the unlocked version of iPhone 5 in the US, its home country, and only sells the device with carrier partners like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

Apple iPhone 5 launch in India has been delayed by a week to November 2, but several Apple partners in India have confirmed that the starting price for the much-awaited phone will be Rs 45,500.

The prices have been shared by Redington, one of two distribution partners of Apple in India. According to Redington, the basic 16GB version of the iPhone 5 will be priced at Rs 45, 500, the 32GB and 64GB will be priced Rs52500 and Rs 59500 respectively. On Friday, Ingram, the other Apple India retailer, confirmed that Apple is set to launch the iPhone 5 on November 2, 2012. Redington and Ingram Micro already distribute iPad and iPods in the country.

Both black and white versions of the phone are expected to go on sale. But still stocks are extremely limited considering the global demand for the device.

Online retailers like Infibeam and Saholic have already started accepting the preorders for the 16GB variant of iPhone 5 with an advance payment of Rs 5,000. Saholic is listing the 16GB version for Rs45500 with an estimated shipping date of 4 November.

Apple’s iPhone 5 has been one of the fastest selling smartphones ever as the company sold nearly 5 million devices in the first weekend itself. India might not be on the top of the list as far as Apple is concerned but the launch of the iPhone 5 has been much awaited.

Key features of the iPhone are: a 4 inch screen with a higher screen resolution of 1136×640 pixel which comes to around 326 ppi. That’s Retina Display quality for you.

The iPhone5 has the dual-core A6 chip, an 8 megapixel rear camera with a sapphire crystal lens cover for ‘clearer pictures’ and a 1.2 megapixel front camera. The dock connector is now called Lightning, and is an eight-pin plug.

As expected, Airtel has started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5 for Rs 45,500. Currently, Airtel is only taking pre-orders for the black model with 16GB of storage and it is yet to list any other iPhone 5 variant.

Airtel says that the device will be available from 11 November onwards. However it also says that the device will ship in 16 to 17 days, so if one intends to purchase the device from Airtel, then be prepared to wait for sometime.

For those who don’t know, the iPhone 5 is powered by Apple’s latest A6 chip, and it has a larger 4-inch Retina display and packs in an improved 8-megapixel camera from the iPhone 4S. It also features a new design that involves the use of aluminium on the back where the screen meets the body with diamond cut chamfered edges.
