The net addition of new subscribers has declined from 1.53% in May when the telecom operators added 13.2 million new users to reach 874.68 million users in the country.
Total number of wireless subscriber base stood at 851.7 million with net addition of 11.41 subscribers in June. The wireline subscribers reduced to 34.29 million in June from 34.4 million in May. The number of unsatisfied mobile customers grew to 12.98 million which is equivalent to 1.52% of total wireless subscriber base during the month.
Top three telecom circles where mobile phone users requested to change their operators were Gujarat 1.2 million mobile number portability (MNP) request, followed by 1.03 million in Maharashtra and 983 thousand in Karnataka.
However, the number of active mobile subscribers, according to the visitor location register (VLR) data, during June of was 594.77 million. VLR numbers provide details on active customers at any given point of time, excluding switched-off and out-of-coverage area customers.
The growth in the wireless category was led byBharti Airtel which added 2.12 million users, taking its subscriber base to 169.18 million by the end of June 2011.
Reliance Communications added 2.10 million subscribers, taking its user base to 143.26 million. Vodafone added 2.09 million new customers to take user base to 141.52 million.
Idea Cellular and Aircel added 1.35 million and 0.91 million users respectively, during the period. Tata Teleservices added 0.21 million users in June.
State-run telcos BSNL added .89 million new users taking it total subcriber base to 93.72 million.
Sturggling state-run telecom company MTNL for the first time reported loss in customer base. The company lost 2340 wirless subcribers in June and it subscribers of the segment dipped to 5,499,060 in June from 5,501,400 in May.
There was marginal increase in broadband subscriber base in June to 12.32 million from 12.12 million in May.
Subscription data of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India showed marginal increase in teledensity (phones per 100 people) of the country to 73.97 in June from 73.11 in May.
