That was at home not in away conditions the 1 match we won was the famous game at Adelaide and then there was the close game at Sydney
We didn't have good bowlers post Srinath. Zaheer Khan was only good one. Agarkar was there but he was not good enough. Ranadeb Bose/Shib Shankar Paul who was at his prime didn't get chances. Parwinder Awana/Nathu Singh/Siddarth Trivedi never got chance. Pankaj Singh got chance after two years of performance in 2013. Why not pick when he is picking up wickets(2010-2011)? Instead you pick up Vinay Kumar for Australia tour who hardly has pace. Avesh Khan is picking up wickets in Ranji Trophy and he is getting chances in T20 cricket. What kind of logic is this? Once upon a time in Indian cricket, we picked up Vijay Shankar and Venkatesh Iyer. Now Venkatesh Iyer is in reserves and Vijay Shankar is not even in vicinity of selection. You pick Shivam Dubey who hardly bowls. There is Raj Bawa, from U19, not picked up even for emerging teams.
Nehra hardly played test cricket. Balaji was not good enough. Irfan Pathan faded away due to Greg Chappell and number three promotion. Zak reduced his pace for reverse swing. Under Virat, we won because of two reasons, batting unit was together since 2011 and Shami, Ishant, Umesh got chances at right time. It's important to have good set of bowlers who pick up 20 wickets. If HP would have maintained his fitness, we would have against England, Proteas, Kiwi team as well. But as per my resources from GuJ, he don't want to play test cricket only. That's why Thakur getting chances regularly since 2020. See the proteas, after Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, Rabada, Ngidi, Nortje getting chances regularly. After Southee, Boult, Wagner, two three fast bowlers coming up through ranks. Even all rounders. Even from such a small country. England getting good bowlers beyond Anderson and Broad. Wood got chance in 2015, Potts, Mahmood, Fisher getting chances.

Barring Siraj, we don't have any one. We need to appoint Zaheer Khan/Venkatesh Prasad/Nehra to NCA instead of coaching in IPL teams. Even Ishant will do in current scenario.

I am talking about 2003-2008 when we had players in their prime it would have been nice to see both India and Australia play a WTC final at a neutral venue. India with Zak, Nehra, Agarkar, Balaji (when fit), Pathan, Harbhajan, Kumble along with Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly.

The only problem that time was keeper which was changed between Dasgupta, Parthiv Patel, Mongia By 2006 it was Dhoni

I am talking same. Srinath didn't play after 2003. We didn't have much options. Don't called Agarkar Balaji as fast bowlers. Agarkar was good for English conditions. Adelaide was fluke. We didn't have good bowling coach as well. Who would have picked up wickets against top Australian team? Only Zak? Nehra never played test cricket. Irfan Pathan was destroyed. There was no other bowler who would have picked up wickets. During those times, check for Kumble and Harbhajans records abroad. Not so good. Keeper wasn't issue.
