Jadeja reaches top spot in ICC Test Rankings for bowlers

Ravindra Jadeja has reached the top spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings for bowlers following his six-wicket haul in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test against Australia, the International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday (March 8). He jointly shares the position with his spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin, who too had bagged a six-wicket haul in the second innings.

Jadeja's seven wickets in the match, which included a crucial 6 for 63 in the first innings, helped him move up one rank to reach the top position for the first time in his career.

The duo has become the first spin pair to jointly hold the top spot in the ICC Rankings. The last time two bowlers shared the top spot was in April 2008 when Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralitharan shared the coveted spot.

However, Ashwin slipped one spot in the all-rounder's ranking and is now second, below Shakib al Hasan, who has 441 points to his name.

Virat Kohli slipped one spot in the batsmen rankings and now is ranked third behind Steve Smith and Joe Root. Kane Williamson and David Warner complete the top five batsmen in Tests.

India's win in Bengaluru meant they will finish as the No. 1 ranked side on the April 1 cut-off date even if they go on to lose the Test series against Australia. They will receive a cash prize of $1 million.
