I called a US land-line today. First call was good. For the second call, the voice was breaking. So I would say it's 50-50!!

New Delhi: Google has updated the Hangouts app for Android and has added a lot of new features in the
upgraded version including new sticker packs, video filters and the 'last seen' timestamp.

Hangouts users can now give video calls some extra flair with video filters including sepia, vignette, and black and white. Video filters appear with just a single swipe during the call.

The Hangouts app has also been upgraded with the "last seen" timestamp feature. "Last seen" shows when the people you use Hangouts with were last using Hangouts.

You can change your own "last seen" in the Settings.

This feature is similar to the one that users have been using in
WhatsApp for almost a year now.
The "last seen" timestamp will roll out in waves over the next few weeks, so you may not see this feature for all your
contacts right away.

From penguins to pirates, koalas to cats, Google has added 16 new sticker packs to Hangouts to make it easier for users to express themselves.

The new updates will soon be available on the Hangouts iOS
app. http://m.ibnlive.com/news/google-updates-hangouts-app-for-android-with-last-seen-timestamp-video-filters/517967-11.html

After Android received the Google Hangouts update last month, the company released an update for iOS users, as promised.

Google has made some significant improvements to Hangouts. The 2.5.0 update could even be smarter than the updated Android version. The iOS update comes with new stickers and with Google Voice integration. It has also added smart sharing suggestions. This way, if a person inquires about where you are, the app automatically detects it and allows you to share your location with a single tap.

In other new features, the app allows users to set a status message, similar to other instant messaging apps such as BBM, WhatsApp. It also adopts the same ‘last seen’ timeframe which is seen in WhatsApp. Users can also can access SMS and voicemail messages via their Google Voice account as well. It also gives them the ability to search for contacts by phone numbers.

Lastly, Google has also made improvements to our video call experience and fixed some bugs to improve the app overall.

Hangouts for iOS version 2.5.0 can be downloaded at the App Store, and is compatible with iOS 7.0 or higher devices.

This year Google wants you to go 'flappy' to locate its Easter egg on your Android phone and use its recently launched Hangouts app to make the best use of the Easter day.

Inspired by the highly addictive and controversial game, Flappy Bird, one of the Google's Easter eggs is a clone of the game, but instead of a bird, the Android mascot needs to be flown across a field of lollipops.

Google hinted at the location of its Easter egg for this year through a tweet that showed the steps through which the game could be activated. All you got to do is tap on the 'About Phone' section five times in the settings menu of your Android phone and watch the Android bot fly through the Lollipops. However, this Easter game is as hard as the original Flappy Bird.

The search giant recently rolled out its Hangouts chat service replacing its own good old Gtalk. To mark the resurrection of the Christ, users can send cute animated Easter bunnies and eggs as emojis through the app.

Easter is celebrated by the Christians around the world commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to the Scripture, Jesus came back to life three days after his death on the cross. The death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday followed by the Easter Sunday.

Google has launched a new version of its Hangouts messenger app on the Chrome Store with new features including Mac OS X optimisation. It adopts a brand new look as it is based on the company’s signature Material Design. Few would say that it resembles to the Android and iOS versions of Hangouts.

The most prominent change to Hangouts is to its standard chat layout. Contacts will now appear on the left side with the chat window towards the right. Mayur Kamat, Google Hangouts Product Manager informed users that the new version for Hangouts Chrome App was out and advised users, specially with Mac OS X, to give it a try. Users can also try out some new features on Chrome OS, Linux and Windows as well. If you are not on OS X, Kamat advises to switch off the ‘transparent mode’ before using the app.

Users who not receive the update can uninstall the software and reload it onto their device.

An next week’s Google I/O, the company is will reportedly unveil a new online photo-sharing service which will not be a part of the Google+ network. The new service will allow users to post images to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This news doesn’t come as a surprise as an earlier report had pointed out that Google+ was to split into Photos and Streams.

Google’s Android messaging application is getting a well-deserved updatewhich should fix several design and user interface complaints. A first look at Hangouts 4.0 reveals that various changes are in the works to improve its overall layout and structure, although a release date for it isn’t yet available.

The app isn’t available just yet, but Android Police has already gotten access to Hangouts 4.0, explaining its most important features supposed to finally “fix” it.

The overall design of Hangouts has apparently been significantly improved. The app’s new loading screen features a simpler layout, losing all tabs. Instead, there’s a floating action button which opens several options to the user, including speed dials, new video call, new SMS, new group and new conversation.

Other design changes include the removal of the trash can icon when managing conversations, and a new way of reminding a user that notifications are muted for a certain conversation. A new status option lets users set their status, which will be seen by their family and friends who are also using Hangouts.

According to the Android fan blog, the design of the actual chats has also been “tidied up.” Outgoing messages are now white, and incoming messages are green, all having rounded corners. Your avatar doesn’t appear in the chat windows anymore, and time stamps aren’t included with every message anymore, appearing sporadically throughout the chat. Long-pressing the avatar of the other people in a chat will get you details about a message. In case SMS is enabled, a dropdown menu will appear on the left side of the message box to select between messaging options.

Attaching items to messages, including images, stickers, emojis and others, is also easier in Hangouts 4.0, as users will have access to an entire row of options rather than just a paperclip icon.

Finally, the tablet version of Hangouts is yet to receive a proper tablet user interface in version 4.0, although the app is not yet launched, so things could changed.

Hangouts 4.0 isn’t available for manual download just yet, and it’s not known whenGoogle will roll it out – head over to the source link to view more images showing the aforementioned changes.
