Google has added a new tool to its Docs on Web and Android which will allow users to outline the headers for each section of a document, making is easier for the user to jump from one section to the other respectively.

Quickly find what you're looking for in your document - scroll and see for yourself.

When a user begins to scroll on their mobile device, a small navigation handle will automatically appear. Touching that handle will display the entire document’s structure, allowing users to quickly skip from section to section, instead of slowly swiping up and down.

On desktops, the feature will let users see a new Outline panel on the left which shows the header sections of a document, very similar to what a table of contents look like. Users can enable the feature by going to Tools > Document outline.

A recent report stated that Google is about to embark on an old-school search, swapping its Internet algorithm for a custom-built van that will cruise across the US to find out how people use its online services and react to new features.

The white van emblazoned with Google’s colourful logo and an invitation to “shape the future” of the world’s most powerful Internet company is scheduled to pull out on a six-week road trip.

Google on Monday rolled out an update for its Google Drive service on Chrome for desktop. The update will now let users cherry pick the specific files they want to make available for offline access. For those unaware, the search giant until now downloaded every single Docs, Sheet and Slides file for offline access and editing. The update will however, now let them view and edit only those files which they actually need.

To make specific files available to edit offline, you need to visit the Docs, Sheets, or Slides home screen and switch on the Available offline option in a file's overflow menu. "Please note that this feature will only be available to users working in a Chrome browser on desktop and whose admins have allowed them to enable offline access in Drive," says the firm.

Once the option has been enabled, the system would then download the selected files in the background. You can then edit the particular file, which will get synced when the connection has been re-established.

Last week, Google rolled out a feature for its Drive desktop app for Windows and OS X that would let you select particular folders or sub-folders you want to sync and deselect the ones you don't. The search giant says that a hard disk can run out of space if users sync everything. Therefore, this will help them save some of their hard disk's precious storage. The app will also show the size of each folder. The company earlier this year extended the feature to type in Docs on the Web inside Chrome using voice commands and gave users the ability to even make edits using their voice.

Smart Text Selection uses machine learning to figure out which information is pertinent when you double tap, and then offers contextual options such as calling a number or entering an address into Maps, rather than just the usual 'cut' or 'copy' etc. It's a nifty solution that should save us all a bit of time, and it's also a really impressive use of machine learning locally on your device. The changelog for the latest Google Docs update includes "Smart text selection on devices running Android O", as well as the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

A growing number of complaints about Google Docs layout and formatting issues have arisen over the past couple of days, and adblocker seem to be the culprit.

Text might be shifted around your document, or it could overlay itself into what amounts to a double-printed mess. Google Slides also appears to be affected by an adblocker in the same way the Docs and Slides happen to be. Text boxes can be randomly centered or shifted to the edges of your main page view. It’s an odd bug, which looks fairly widespread
