Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is in the process of charting out the roadmap for the inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) that will be played from the last week of August to the second week of September.
It has been planned that the salary cap for players who have played for India will be Rs 5 Lakh, while for the state players its Rs 2.50 lakhs. Those who haven't made their state debut, the cap will be Rs 1 lakh.
"It is a great opportunity for players from the districts to showcase to showcase their talent. The tournament seems to be generating a lot of buzz across the state," said a TNCA official on Thursday .
The TNCA has also decided to host a few matches outside Chennai."We will have 27 matches and those will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and the NPR College Ground in Natham," the official added. The timeline for the tender processes of franchise rights and media rights have been officially put out.
"On May 1, we commence the tender processes for franchise and media rights. With regards to franchise rights, the last date for the availability of tender document will be May 25. The award for franchise will be on June 9. For media rights, the last date of tender availability will be May 15 while opening of tender will on May 26," said the official.
The TNCA is also appointing officials who will be in charge of the tournament. "Prasanna Kannan will be the CEO, while Rahul Mascaren has has been named the legal head.Both are extremely competent individuals who we are sure will make the competition a big success," said the official.
A base price of Rs 1.25 crore per year has been kept as franchise fee. The period of contract will be in perpetuity .
No sale of franchise either in full or in part will be entertained during the first two years.
However, on completion of two years, sale of the team in part or in full will be allowed after the express approval of TNCA. "The details of sale or transfer or change of control should be submitted to the TNCA. Also, 1% of gross sale value for each of such transfer or sale should be paid to TNCA for consideration," mentioned the official.
The tournament, which will start off with 8 franchises, will see its num off with 8 franchises, will see its number rising to 10 after the third year as TNCA could add 2 more teams.
The tournament is set to have strong anti-doping policies and will be monitored by anti-corruption units.
