M Chinnaswamy stadium to have better drainage system

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided to install subsurface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. The system will be imported from the Unites States of America.

The system starts working within minutes of rain and prevents water logging in any part of the field. It is believed that after the system is installed, water will be removed 36 times faster than drainage by gravity. It also helps the groundsmen create a much better playing field by preventing turf diseases, algae, excessive thatch and black layer.

"Once the rain stops, it will be inexcusable to delay or cancel a game due to a wet outfield. With this high-tech solution from SubAir, faster resumption of the game is now possible," said Brijesh Patel, the KSCA president, on Thursday (April 21).

SubAir, as it's known, has been used in National Football League and in the football World Cup in 2014. It will also be used in the upcoming football World Cup in 2018.

Ashwin, Vijay and Chawla Among Top Stars Gracing Inaugural State League

Ace India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Test opener Murali Vijay and leggie Piyush Chawla will be seen in action in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, set to be held from August.

The TNCA executive committee met on Wednesday at Chepauk, and decks have been cleared for the state league. Advertisements will be released on May 1. The tender document (franchise) will be available from May 2 to 25. “We’ve got inquiries from 13 to 14 people who’re interested in picking up tenders for franchises. On June 1, we’ll give all clarifications. June 9 will be the last day to submit the tender, and we’ll award rights to the franchise on the same day,” said Prasanna Kannan, CEO of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

“The reserve price for each franchise is `1.25 crores per year, for a period of 10 years. After that period, there will be no franchise fee. We also have rights to add two new teams after three years,” added Prasanna.

The TNCA informed that all registered players with the association are eligible to play. “All players registered with the TNCA league can play in the TNPL. For international cricketers, the cap is `5 lakh. `2.5 lakh is for Ranji and List A T20 players, and `1 lakh for the rest,” informed Dr Baba, media manager of TNCA.

It should be noted that KSCA and Goa have not allowed outstation players in their T20 leagues. “Their case is different, as their league rules don’t permit outstation players. Players like Rahul Dravid, who has registered and played in the TNCA league for several years, can play if he wants. Even those who have registered recently can play. Whoever is registered with a club in the TNCA league can play, as the rules have a clause that permits outstation players to play,” clarified Dr Baba.

“The timing of the league is such that there’ll be no international matches. So, players like R Ashwin and Murali Vijay all will be available,” added Dr Baba.

Prasanna also informed that four to five people have shown interest in broadcast rights. “Four to five people have shown intent to go for broadcast rights. The reserve price for the same is `7 crore per tournament,” said Prasanna.
