England Defender Phil Jones Doubtful for World Cup Due to Shoulder Injury
Manchester: England national defender Phil Jones was hospitalized with a left shoulder injury sustained in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Hull in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old Jones was injured in an aerial collision with Hull defender Maynor Figueroa at a corner in the first half of Tuesday night's match at Old Trafford.
He left the field wincing with pain and was taken to a hospital.
Interim United manager Ryan Giggs says "just by his reaction, he knew he had done something and he wanted to come off. Usually, as a player, you know that something is not great when you do that."
Jones has made nine appearances for England and was expected to be included in the Three Lions' 23-man World Cup roster to be announced May 12.
Worker's Death Delays Work At Yet Another World Cup Stadium in Brazil
Rio de Janerio: There was more trouble for the organisers of the 2014 FIFA World Cup as construction at the Arena Pantanal stadium in Cuiaba was suspended after the death of a worker.
An investigation was launched on Friday following the death of Muhammad Ali Maciel (32) due to electrocution on Thursday at the stadium while installing lights, reports Xinhua. "What happened in this sector can also happen in another because procedures might not have been followed. It's a preventative measure," local labour ministry chief Jose Almeida said in a statement.
The incident has raised fresh doubts about whether Brazil's stadiums will be ready in time for the FIFA World Cup which starts June 12.
Besides ongoing work on its electric and lighting systems, Arena Pantanal still awaits the fitting of thousands of seats. Work is also on at Sao Paulo's Itaquerao Stadium, which will host the tournament opener.
