Facebook Is Using AI to Make the Social Network a 'Hostile Place for Terrorists'
Facebook Inc on Thursday offered additional insight on its efforts to remove terrorism content, a response to political pressure in Europe to militant groups using the social network for propaganda and recruiting.
Facebook has ramped up use of artificial intelligence such as image matching and language understanding to identify and remove content quickly, Monika Bickert, Facebook's director of global policy management, and Brian Fishman, counter-terrorism policy manager, explained in a blog post.

Facebook is rolling out a dedicated button for adding GIFs to comments

Sending a GIF through Facebook's Messenger app is pretty easy. It's long been possible to send GIFs quickly using the dedicated button, and the app recently added support for GBoard's GIF searchfeature, giving you even more choice. Sending a GIF in the main Facebook app has been a little trickier, however, first having to find a one elsewhere and then copy/paste it in. To celebrate 30 years of GIFs(I had no idea they were that old, either), the Facebook app now also includes a GIF button right in the text field, allowing you to search for and send one without leaving the app.

Facebook is testing a new Profile Picture Guard in India

Facebook, for better or for worse, remains one of the primary ways people communicate with each other online. So it should come as no surprise that India, with somewhere around 450 million internet users, is one of Facebook's primary markets. Today the company announced that a test pilot program has begun in India, focusing on increased control over user profile pictures.

Facebook said in a blog post, "In India, we’ve heard that people want more control over their profile pictures, and we’ve been working over the past year to understand how we can help." To this end, a new Profile Picture Guard is being rolled out to some people. When this is enabled by the Facebook user, other people cannot save the profile picture, nor take a screenshot of it or tag it (unless you are the friends with the person).

Mark Zuckerberg Post
"Tonight I had my first Iftar dinner with a group of Somali refugees in Minneapolis.

As a refugee, you often don't get to choose which country you end up in. When I asked one man, who had spent 26 years in a refugee camp, whether America now felt like home, he gave a simple and profound answer:

"Home is where you are free to do what you want. Yes, this feels like home."

There are few places in the world he felt comfortable to be who he is: the country he was born, and our country that values freedom.

What a beautiful tribute to America.

Thanks to my hosts for being so gracious at the very end of Ramadan. I left impressed by your strength and resilience to build a new life in an unfamiliar place, and you are a powerful reminder of why this country is so great."

NEW YORK: With an aim to empower its creator community, Facebook has announced that it is planning to launch a new app just for them later this year.

The essentially a video creation app will be made just for its star broadcasters, who are also the same folks who are deemed worthy enough to use Facebook Mentions -- an app only available to verified accounts owned by journalists, celebrities and other online influencers, Engadget reported on Friday.
