Statistical highlights from the opening day's play from Mumbai:
0 - Previous instances of three venues in Mumbai (Wankhede, Brabourne and Gymkhana) hosting a Test match without a local player. In fact, this is the first time since the Chennai Test against Australia in 2004 that India are playing a home Test without a Mumbai player in the XI.
21 - Virat Kohli has now captained India in 21 Tests and has never played with the same XI in consecutive Tests. Apart from himself, the only other player to feature in all the 20 Tests before today was Ajinkya Rahane.
6 - Alastair Cook has become the sixth player to score 2000 or more runs against India in Tests. He has played 24 Tests against India and has scored 2027 runs at 51.97. The others to do it before Cook were Ricky Ponting (2555), Clive Lloyd (2344), Javed Miandad (2228), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2171) and Michael Clarke (2049).
22.83 - Cook's average against spinners this series. He has fallen to R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja three times each. Prior to this series, Cook averaged 60.36 against spin in Asia.
14 - Opening partners for Cook in Tests with Jennings being the latest. Their stand of 99 today is the second highest for Cook with any of the 14 players in their maiden partnership, after 116 with Moeen Ali in Abu Dhabi last year.
19 - Jennings became the 19th England player to score a century on debut and the third to do so against India, after Bruce Valentine and Cook. Among the five players to score a hundred on debut for England since 2000, four are South African born - Andrew Strauss, Matt Prior, Jonathan Trott and Jennings.
8 - Jennings became the eight England opener to score a century on debut and the first since Cook in Nagpur in 2006. He is the fourth opener to score a century on debut against India and his 112 is the highest among the four.
9 - Jennings also became the ninth player to score a hundred in his maiden innings in Tests in India. The last two to do it were Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes in the first match of the series in Rajkot.
112 by Jennings is the highest for a player making his debut at the Wankhede. The previous highest was 88 by Owais Shah in 2006. These are the only two scores above fifty for debutants at Wankhede.
8 - Hundreds for Jennings in first-class cricket this season. It is also the most for a player in first-class games in 2016. This is Jennings's seventh first-class season and he had only five hundreds in his six previous seasons.
