Stats highlights from last two days of play from Rajkot:

83 by Haseeb Hameed is the highest score by an England teenager in Tests, surpassing the 110-year-old record of Jack Crawford, who scored 74 against South Africa in Cape Town in 1906.

4 century partnerships for the first wicket involving Alastair Cook - the most by a visiting player in India. The only other visiting opener involved in three 100+ stands in India was Matthew Hayden.

180-run stand between Hameed and Cook is the highest opening-wicket stand for a visiting team in India in the second innings. They went past the 131-run stand put together by New Zealand's Matthew Horne and Gary Stead in Ahmedabad in 1999. It is also England's highest first wicket partnership in India, eclipsing the 178-run association between Graeme Fowler and Tim Robinson in Chennai in 1985.

12 Hundreds by Cook as captain of England in 55 Tests. He went past Graham Goochs 11 centuries in 34 Tests and now has the most tons by an England skipper.

9 Centuries by Cook in 24 Tests in Asia the most by a visiting player. He went past Jaques Kallis eight hundreds in 25 Tests in the region. Five of Cook's nine hundreds have come in India, which is also the most for a visiting player, bettering four each by Everton Weekes, Clive Lloyd and Hashim Amla.

4 Cook went on to become the fourth batsman to score 1000 runs against India in India after Clive Lloyd (1359), Gordon Greenidge (1042) and Matthew Hayden (1027). 18 innings by Cook to the milestone is second fastest after Lloyd, who reached there in one innings fewer.

230 runs conceded by R Ashwin is the most he has conceded in a Test at home. The previous most was the 226 he gave away against New Zealand in Kanpur last month. He took just three wickets in this Test compared to ten in that Kanpur game.

56.88 Ashwins average against England in Tests in India, easily the worst for him against an opposition. He has 17 wickets against England in five home Tests with a best of 3 for 80. The next worst average for him against any team at home is 21.64 vs West Indies.

20 In Indias first innings, Virat Kohli became the 20th Indian player (22nd instance) to get dismissed hit wicket in Tests. The last Indian captain to be dismissed that way was Lala Amarnath against West Indies in the Chennai Test of 1949, which incidentally was the first instance for an Indian player.

49* by Kohli in India's second innings is his second highest in 19 innings against England after the 103 in Nagpur four years ago. He averages 24.17 in the 10 Tests against England.

4 for 114 by Adil Rashid in Indias first innings is the best figures for an England leg-spinner against India since the 5 for 35 by Tommy Greenhough at Lord's in 1959. Rashid's match figures of 7 for 178 is the third-best for an England spinner in his maiden Test in India after 9 for 93 by Malcolm Hilton (Kanpur, 1952) and 9 for 162 by Fred Titmus (Chennai, 1964).

13 This is the first time India have conceded the first innings lead in a home Test in 13 Tests. The last such instance also came against England in Nagpur in 2012 when India declared four runs short of Englands 330.

India vs England: We won't leave much grass on pitch for 2nd Test, says BCCI curator

With spotlight firmly on the pitch, BCCI curator Kasturi Sriram said that unlike Rajkot wicket , the 22-yard strip to be provided for the second Test against England "won't have much grass" with turn on offer from second day onwards.

With Indian spinners especially Ravichandran Ashwin being rendered ineffective primarily due to lack of assistance from the pitch, it is only natural that the hosts would expect a strip that's to their advantage.

"There will not be much grass and we should expect the ball to turn from lunch on Day 2," Sriram said adding that there has not been any instruction from the team thinktank.

"Yesterday, it was cold and today it's drastically hot and humid and wicket appears dry now. We will see how is it on the eve of the match."

Like Rajkot, it will be the first time that a Test match will be played at this venue. On October 29, New Zealand were shot out for 79 on a slow turner to hand India the five-match ODI series 3-2.

ACA secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju was more defensive in his approach.

"We have prepared a neutral wicket and it should assist both the teams equally. We hope to see a result," ACA secretary and BCCI vice president G Gangaraju told PTI.

The Vizag pitch made headlines for the wrong reasons when Rajasthan skittled Assam for 69 in their second innings in a Ranji Trophy match ending inside three days with their coach Sunil Joshi, a former India leftarm spinner, crying foul.

But Gangaraju stressed that one should not draw parallel with the Ranji Trophy wicket.
"The Assam wicket was a different one and some miscommunication had led to that."

Referring to the New Zealand ODI, he said:"The wicket had a bit of moisture during the India-New Zealand match. But it was their inept batting that led to the collapse."

With spin-friendly conditions on offer, toss will play a key role as England have made their intention clear having won the spin battle in Rajkot.

Their spin trio of Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Zafar Ansari accounted for a share of 13 wickets compared to nine taken by the Indian spinners.

Fully-fit KL Rahul to join India squad for second Test

KL Rahul is set to make a comeback to the Indian squad after nursing a hamstring injury which he suffered during the first Test against New Zealand (September 22-26) in Kanpur, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Tuesday (November 15). The 24-year old Karnataka opener will join the squad as its 16th member for the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, starting November 17 (Thursday). As per the protocol set by the Indian team management, any player coming out of an injury lay-off has to play domestic cricket and prove his fitness before coming back to the national squad.
A media release by the BCCI stated: "The All India Senior Selection Committee has decided to add India batsman KL Rahul to the Indian squad ahead of the second Test of the Paytm Test Series - 2016 between India and England to be played at Vizag from November 17, 2016. Rahul has fully recovered from his right hamstring injury and would be joining the squad today (November 15, 2016)."
Rahul is currently playing for Karnataka in their Ranji Trophy Group B clash against Rajasthan in Vizianagram and scored 76 and 106 to put his state side in a commanding position. With Gautam Gambhir scoring just 108 runs in his last two Tests, a fully-fit Rahul is most likely to walk out with Murali Vijay as his opening partner in Visakhapatnam.
In his short stint with the Indian Test side, Rahul has already struck three centures, last of which came in the first Test in West Indies in July earlier this year. In his last Test appearance, Rahul batted with a lot of flair but failed to convert his starts in both the innings against New Zealand in Kanpur. Although Karnataka's match against Rajasthan is slated to get over only on November 16 (Wednesday), they have availed Rahul's batting services already. The Karnataka team is staying in Visakhapatnam anyway and are travelling to Vizianagram every day for their Ranji fixture.
Rahul made his Test debut against Australia in 2014 and ever since he has featured in nine Test matches, scoring 532 runs at an average of 37.46 only. He has made rapid progress in the limited-overs format for India and has earned great reputation for his aggressive batting approach.
The first Test of the five-match series between India and England at Rajkot ended in a draw on November 13 (Sunday).
