Key stats from Day 2 of the Rajkot Test:
10 - England players scoring a century in their maiden Test in India. Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes joined this list after their hundreds in the first innings. The only other instance of two batsmen doing it in the same Test was in Nagpur in 2006.
1 - This was the first Test hundred for Ali away from home. His previous highest was 68 against Bangladesh in Chittagong a couple of Tests ago. All his four hundreds have been against subcontinent teams - two against Sri Lanka and one each against Pakistan and India.
8 - Fifty-plus stands for the sixth wicket for England in their last ten innings. Bairstow and Stokes added 99 in England's first innings. The only two times they missed out was against Bangladesh in the Mirpur Test. The stands read 99 (last), 12, 45, 127, 88, 65, 93, 152, 66 and 57.
10 - Instances of a visiting team scoring three hundreds in an innings in India. The last such instance came in 2009 in Ahmedabad when Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and Prasanna Jayawrdene notched up hundreds. England had on such instance before - in Kanpur in 1961 .
25 - Test matches since a visiting player batting at six or below scored a hundred in India before Stokes. The last to do it was Kane Williamson who scored 131 in Ahmedabad in 2010, in what was his debut match.
1 - This was the first instance of Stuart Broad batting at number 11 in a Test match - in his 100th Test. The only other players to bat at 11 in their 100th Test were Glenn McGrath, Makhaya Ntini and James Anderson.
428 - Runs scored by England's middle order (number 3-7) - the most for them in a Test match in India. The previous most was 375 runs in Kanpur in 1964 .
18 - Maiden overs bowled by India in England's first innings which lasted 159.3 overs. They could never bowl more than two maidens at any point of time which resulted in release of pressure from English batsmen.
167 runs conceded by Ravichandran Ashwin is the third most he has conceded in an innings, after 194 against Australia in Adelaide in 2012 and 183 against England in Kolkata in 2012.
63.27 - Strike rate for left handers against R Ashwin in England's first innings. Stokes was particularly severe on him, scoring 39 off 59 balls with four fours and a six. In Tests in the subcontinent since 2013, left handers average only 15.15 against him at a strike rate of 42.53.
31.5 overs bowled by Umesh Yadav is the second most by him an innings. The only time he bowled more was against Australia at the MCG in 2014 when he bowled 32.3 overs.
537 by England is their third highest total in India after 652 for 7 decl. in Chennai in 1985 and 559 for 8 decl. in Kanpur in 1964. They were also the last visiting side to register a 500-plus total in India, when they scored 523 in Kolkata in 2012, which incidentally was India's last defeat at home.
478 - The highest first innings total for a team in India which ended up on the losing side - Australia in Bangalore in 2010 . Only once England have lost after scoring more than 537 - 551 for 6 decl. against Australia in Adelaide in 2006 .
1 - Fifty-plus stand between Gautam Gambhir and Murali Vijay in seven innings together. They have added 63 runs so far. Their six previous stands read 8, 26, 3, 6, 26 and 11*.
