The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the dates and venues for the upcoming home series against England that consists of five Tests, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The first of the five-Test series will kick-off in Rajkot on November 9, 2016.

As had been the norm during the 2012 series between these two teams, England will play the Test matches first before returning home. They will make their way back to the subcontinent in January, 2017, to complete the ODI and T20I leg of the tour.

The BCCI had previously announced six (Indore, Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Pune) new Test venues from this calendar year (2016-17) with Indore set to host the visiting New Zealand team in October. Rajkot and Visakhapatnam now follow the trend, hosting the first two Tests before the series moves on to the traditional venues in Mohali, Mumbai and Chennai.

The tourists then return home for a Christmas and New Year break before returning to India to complete the remainder of the tour. The series resumes with the first ODI to be played in Pune on January 15th, 2017. Cuttack and Kolkata will complete the ODI leg while Kanpur, Nagpur and Bengaluru are scheduled to host the T20Is.

This will be the first time since the 1986-87 series against Pakistan that India will he hosting a visiting team for five Tests in a series. India have never beaten England in a Test series since the Sachin Tendulkar inspired stunning 387-run chase during the 2008-09 home series.

Wood set to miss India tour

England fast bowler Mark Wood is to undergo a third operation in 12 months and is likely to miss the tour of India.

Wood fractured a bone in his left ankle playing for Durham against Surrey in their Division One match last month, though he continued to bowl after picking up the injury.

England physio Ben Langley says the new injury is unrelated to the two operations he underwent last winter.

Langley said: "Woody showed his commitment to Durham with the way he bowled 35 overs in that Surrey game, and we know now that he also showed a hell of a lot of courage and resilience.

"His foot and ankle swelled up hugely during the game, which was obviously worrying, and then we were perplexed when nothing significant showed up on the first scan.

"It was only when we got him in for a second scan that we discovered he'd been playing on despite having fractured a bone.

"So it's a different injury to what he's had the previous surgery for, and there's no reason to think that when he's had this bone fragment removed, he won't be able to get back to bowling as well he has for Durham, England Lions and England in the second half of the 2016 summer."

Wood will be eyeing a return in the one-day series against the West Indies next March.

Anderson ruled out of first Test in India: Cook

James Anderson, the England pacer, won't be available to play England's first Test against India, Alastair Cook confirmed on Wednesday (October 19). Anderson was ruled out of the two-match Test series in Bangladesh due to a stress fracture in his left shoulder and ahead of England's first Test in Chittagong, Cook revealed that the veteran pacer will not have recovered in time for the Test in Rajkot, which is scheduled to begin on November 9.

"I don't think he will be there (India) for the start," Cook, England's Test skipper said. "He might come out to do some training but he will not be ready to play in the first Test. I spoke to him last night. He has been doing a lot of training and is in good shape physically. The decision is going to be made over the next week on that."

Cook is still hopeful that the veteran would be available to play in India at some point during the five-match series. "Jimmy has not bowled yet and that has been the problem in the past. The test for his body is when he starts bowling but he is making some strides."

The 34-year-old already missed out on the first Test against Pakistan at home earlier this year due to the shoulder injury, which he aggravated after making his return. With pacer Mark Wood already ruled out, England would be dealt a huge blow if their pace spearhead fails to recover at some stage during the series.

Anderson played a huge part in England winning in India after 28 years when they won 2-1 in 2012. The Rajkot Test will be followed by Tests in Vizag (November 17), Mohali (November 26), Mumbai (December 8) and Chennai (December 16).
