Disney+Hotstar paid subscriber base records an increase so it seems new strategy of cutting down on sports rights investments or premium content like HBO Shows which prove loss making and spending more on expanding content across other genres where return to investment is higher/ bring profits is a right shift in strategy brought in by Disney-Star.

Right mix of content on both Linear ( TV) and Digital (OTT) which r distributed/acquired based on how it can bring in required revenues + subscribers to each platform thereby building a sustainable business model for growth is the key to success and Disney-Star has taken correct approach at right time

Nothing like that. There is growth in broadband adaptation. People were required to pay for subscription to watch ICC World Cup and South Africa tour. Figures will go down again.

Buddy increase in broadband penetration has been happening since long but still post losing IPL, BCCI digital rights Disney+Hotstar saw major declins in its subscriber base and they had implemented new strategy (which would have been crafted earlier on since they wanted investments to be done only in things which are financially viable) which is now bringing in positive outcome.

Providing cricket streaming free on mobile and keeping it under paywall for Connected TV is also part of the Freemium strategy to expand revenue + attract more subscribers from both Pay and FTA segment.....not only sports but as i have said putting in investment / resources across content from different genres and reducing loss making rights acquisitions alongwith freemium busines model approach has helped to deliver good results, all things take time to stabilise thereby assessment of result is done.

Success of India team till World cup final is the main reason of D+HS subscription upside, not for other content. Netflix and Amazon Prime are the most successful to acquire Latest movies and original series now.

It is a combination of all things as i have said and going forward Disney+Hotstar will further expand its offerings and improve upon ways to scale up subscriber base + revenues....all things take time and they r adopting a sports + other content approach as compared to earlier sports dominant approach to garner subscribers.... They already have an impressive range of content from various genres

Marvel content has become stale. Hotstar Originals aren't appealing. The only premium content worth watching are live sporting events. It's Premier League and ICC cricket bringing in viewers. The closest popular content they got in months is the Hindi version of Salaar. One thing that can help hotstar is putting reality shows like Big Boss under paywall. It can sell small time plans and charging Android TV users to stream free content will backfire specially when it's sister platform JioCinema and rivals like Sony Liv are free.
