Dale Steyn's fitness under scanner
Dale Steyn's fitness will be under the scanner when South Africa play Pakistan in a ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match at Fatullah's Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium on Wednesday evening. The world's leading paceman remains an injury concern after bowling just 2.2 overs in a warm-up game versus Bangladesh A earlier. According to Cricket South Africa, Steyn felt "some tightness in his hamstring," a problem that has often troubled the pacer in the past.
Since suffering a right hamstring injury, Steyn has been out of competitive cricket since the beginning of the month. He missed the three-match T20 series against the Australians at home to recover in time for the ICC World Twenty20. Wednesday's match should provide the latest on Steyn's fitness.
There are more injury concerns in the South African camp. Skipper Faf du Plessis has a hamstring strain and didn't play against Bangladesh A. Morne Morkel has a shoulder niggle but that may not be a big worry. South Africa's first match of the World Cup is against Sri Lanka on March 22.
