SINGAPORE: Crude prices edged
lower in Asia today on worries about a global oversupply after a veteran former energy minister in Qatar warned OPEC members against cutting output unilaterally. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate for June delivery fell eight cents to USD 59.17 while Brent crude for June.eased 16 cents to USD 64.75 in late-morning trade. Abdullah al-Attiyah, who led the energy portfolio in oil-rich Qatar for about two decades, yesterday said OPEC should first reach a binding agreement with non-members before reducing production.
 
NEW DELHI: In the run-up to PM
Narendra Modi's visit to China this
week, India has studiously kept
Japan out of the initial planning for
the major Indo-US Malabar naval
combat exercise to be held in the
Bay of Bengal in October.
Sources on Tuesday said the
groundwork being done by India and
the US for the Malabar exercise "did
not as yet include Japan" despite
the two Modi-Obama summits in
September and January agreeing to
"upgrade" the annual combat
manoeuvres.

NEW DELHI: Ten Rajya Sabha
members have been named for a
joint parliamentary committee on
the land acquisition bill.
The members are Prabhat Jha and
Ram Narain Dudi of the BJP,
Digvijaya Singh, Jairam Ramesh and
PL Punia of the Congress, Ram Gopal
Yadav of the Samajwadi Party,
Sharad Yadav of the JD-U, Derek
O'Brien of the Trinamool Congress,
Rajpal Singh Saini of the BSP and
Sharad Pawar of the NCP, said
officials.
