The Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar
Pradesh government will compensate
farmers affected by recent untimely
rains in the region.
Officials said that teams of insurance
companies, representative from
state’s revenue and agriculture
departments would soon visit various
districts of the state, especially in
western parts of the state, to make
on-spot assessment of the damage to
the crops by the untimely rains and
award compensations accordingly.

Nitish Kumar's cabinet on
Wednesday took cancelled all the
major decisions taken by Jitan Ram
Manjhi during his last days as the
Chief Minister.
All together 33 decisions which
Manjhi took was cancelled for Nitish
believed that it violated the norms.
According to him, the decision was
taken without consulting the
cabinet.
These include the reservation in
various sectors, giving salary to the
policemen for 13 months and many
others.
 
New Delhi: The government today
notified fixed subsidy of Rs 4,000 a
tonne for export of up to 1.4 million
tonnes of raw sugar in the ongoing
2014-15 marketing year (October-
September).
Last month, the Cabinet Committee
on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had
approved extension of subsidy on
raw sugar export for the current year
to help boost millers' cash flow and
enable them payment of sugarcane
arrears to farmers that have crossed
Rs 14,500 crore so far.
According to the notification issued
by the Food Ministry, "For the sugar
season 2014-15, the incentive shall
be available for a fixed quantity of
1.4 million tonnes. ...The incentive
shall be Rs 4,000 per tonne."
Millers should utilise the incentive
for making payment to farmers
within three months of its receipt
and utilisation to this effect should
be submitted within one month
through Sugar commissioner or Cane
Commissioner, it said.
To ensure the incentive amount is
used for making cane arrears, millers
have been asked to open a separate
no-lien bank account and furnish
details of the same at the time of
submission of the subsidy claim, it
added.

New Delhi: Collection from direct
taxes rose by 10.67 percent to Rs
6.12 lakh crore in the first 11
months of the current financial year
in line with the revised Budget
projections.
During the April-February period of
the last fiscal, the government had
collected Rs 5.53 lakh crore under
this head.
As per the Budget for 2014-15, the
revenue mop up from direct taxes
was targeted at Rs 7.36 lakh crore. It
was, however, revised downwards to
7.05 lakh crore as per the revised
estimate in the Budget for 2015-16.
Thus, as per the revised estimates,
government expects a 10.5 percent
increase in direct tax collections over
the previous fiscal which was Rs 6.38
lakh crore.
As per the Budget estimate for
2014-15, the growth expected in
direct tax mop-up was pegged at 16
percent.

Islamabad: Pakistani authorities
have slapped a travel ban on an
activist who campaigns for human
rights in troubled Baluchistan
province, stopping him going to a
conference in the United States,
sources said Thursday.
Abdul Qadir Baloch, known as Mama
(uncle) Qadir, was stopped at Karachi
airport as he was about to fly to New
York, where he was due to attend a
weekend conference on alleged
rights violations in Baluchistan and
Sindh provinces.
Qadir is the founder of a pressure
group working for information on
people who have "disappeared"
during the long-running conflict
between the Pakistani government
and Baluch separatist movements.
Hundreds of people accused of links
to separatist groups have gone
missing in recent years, allegedly at
the hands of Pakistani security
forces.
