Aadhaar card to be made mandatory for filing income tax returns, PAN applications

The central government on Tuesday proposed that Aadhaar number will be necessary for filing returns and Permanent Account Number (PAN) applications from July 1, 2017. The Narendra Modi-led government had earlier made it clear that Aadhaar will become an important tool in the future and also had mentioned to make it mandatory for filing income tax returns.

The Finance Ministry headed by BJP veteran Arun Jaitley proposed amendments and with this now, post-July 1, those paying their taxes will need to have Aadhar. Not only this, the Finance Ministry has made it clear that individuals will have to link their 12 digit Aadhaar number with their PAN card, and that too before July 1. Now with this new implementation, those PAN cards not linked to Aadhaar will not be considered valid.

Indian Railways to use drones to collect evidence in case of accidents

Due to loss of critical evidence in the rescue operations following an accident, the Indian Railways plan to deploy drones to photograph the site of the accidents soon after they occur.

The drones will be placed on strategic locations along the tracks. The move is suggested by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabu according to a report in The Hindu . The basic purpose of the accident inquiry is to pinpoint the cause of failure, but the rescue and restoration work tends to compromise if not destroy the evidence.

As the evidence is usually collected much after the accident, the inquiry invariably results in a game where everyone involved tries to avoid the blame, because of which the real cause of the accident is often not identified.
