63 kg of smuggled gold seized at Vizag airport

Over 60 kg of gold "concealed and smuggled" by several passengers on three flights coming from Singapore and Malaysia was seized at the Visakhapatnam airport by the directorate of revenue intelligence, officials said on Monday.

"The DRI Chennai seized 63 kg gold at Visakhapatnam airport concealed and smuggled by several passengers of three flights from Singapore and Malaysia last (Sunday) night," they said.

Heat wave claims 400 lives in Karachi

About 400 people, including women and children, have been killed in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi due to the country’s worst heat wave in more than a decade, as the government called in the army to deal with the crippling crisis.

The heat wave, sweeping across the Sindh province, has been going on since the start of Ramzan on Friday, wreaking havoc and triggering an emergency situation in major hospitals of the province.

Govt warns 48 lakh central government employees – be punctual or face action

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday warned all its employees to come in time to offices, failure of which might attract disciplinary action.

The Department of Personnel and Training
(DoPT) has written to all central government
ministries to ensure punctuality in government
offices.

"Habitual late attendance is viewed as conduct unbecoming of a government servant and disciplinary action may be taken against such a government servant. It is also added that punctuality in attendance is to be observed by government servants at all levels," the DoPT said in its missive.

Service rules stipulates that every government servant shall at all times maintain devotion to duty, it said.

There are about 48 lakh central government employees working across the country.

The DoPT order said instructions have been issued from time to time with regard to the need to observe punctuality by government servants. "Responsibility for ensuring punctuality in respect of their employees rests within ministries, departments or offices," it said.

Mysuru City Police have arrested three persons, for purchasing goods worth several lakh rupees from fake credit cards.

The accused, Selvam (27) a resident of Mysuru, and Uday Kumar (38) and L. Bhaskaran (40) both residents of Chennai, were arrested by the City Crime Branch (CCB) on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda said the accused had managed to obtain credit card data of account holders in foreign banks from the Great Dump website and loaded the details into the fake credit cards in their possession with the help of read and write machines.
