On the same lines, there is a preparation to increase the tariff of broadband internet as well. Tapabrata Mukherjee, co-founder of Meghbela Broadband in Kolkata, told PTI, “Just as there is an ARPU (Customer on Average Revenue) for mobiles, there is a need for a system for broadband as well. Broadband companies are going through huge losses and there is a competition among the companies to provide good facilities to the customers. Broadbank needs to increase the rate by 15-20 percent for the existing service to continue smoothly.

Broadband doesn't need to increase prices unless OTT is involved in the packages
Here, even smaller Broadband providers are giving OTTs like Hotstar Premium, Zee5 etc.

It is just the opinion of a small ISP who wants to increase its revenue by raising tariffs but can't do it unless the big telcos do it for their broadband subscribers as well. But the current broadband tariffs are very much sustainable for the telcos, as in the ARPU is good enough, all they need is more subscribers to increase the overall revenue from wireline services. That will easily be achieved as they continue to increase the price of wireless data and make it unaffordable for bulk data usage. Soon most ppl in urban and semi urban areas will switch to broadband for heavy data usage and use mobile data only for light usage on the go. Just like in all developed countries.

What about common man ARPU, which is getting less and less and no body cares?? Overall this price escalation is bound to happen, it is a series, which started with telecom operators!! Just wait and watch!!
