Hi Guys,

So I have booked a new Airtel Xstream Air Fiber connection today for office. The issue is that regular Fiber is not available in my city Panaji, Goa. They are only providing AirFiber connection everywhere. Will provide reasons below.

It’s for office use and hence existing FTTH was from a local ISP. Was paying approx ₹700 per month for 100 mbps speed. Also frequent disconnection happening and customer support is not that great.

Felt it was waste as were not utilising 100 mbps at all and since it’s for basic office usage.

Was confused whether to go for Jio air Fiber or Airtel Xstream air Fiber, finally, we decided to go for Airtel Xstream AIR Fiber (Airtel WiFi as they call it).
The salesperson showed a demo of the 5G speeds on his smart phone, which is going to approx 300 Mbps indoors on Airtel 5G network.

Opted for the base plan as of now that is prepaid ₹499 @40 mbps unlimited. Paid for 4 months for ₹2355 with free installation and hardware.

Now coming to why we planned to shift. There is no other FTTH ISP apart from BSNL Fiber and a few local ISP. I am already using BSNL at my home and wanted to try something new.

Also due to the smart city works happening there are disconnections happens for most of ISP due to digging works and renovation of footpaths etc. also the over head cables which are installed have to be removed as per the govt guidelines to make the city much better looking. They have made provisions for underground cabling but have to see which ISP will use it as it’s a very big task.

Upon enquiring I got to know that Airtel Xstream fiber is available since 3 years in my city. @Bapun bro has asked me why I didn’t go for Airtel and instead BSNL at home.

Pls provide your feedback on this if it’s the right choice. Thanks

I am not sure if I understand this thread. You got Fiber or AirFiber, it's totally confusing because you have posted this thread on Airtel Fiber (wired optical fiber) section. In the thread title you have mentioned about as Airtel Xstream Fiber connection. But in the message part it's mentioned as AirFiber.

We have separate sections for every Fiber and AirFiber services. Hence need clarification so that the thread remains on correct forum section.

I had booked a Airtel Fiber connection on their website, after the sales representative came it turned out to be an AirFiber connection.

So yes it’s an air fiber connection.
Apologies. Mistakenly I posted it in the Fiber section . Kind request to shift the same to the AirFiber section.

In continuity of my previous post above, upon clarification with the sales guy, it turnout out to be that even regular fiber connections are being migrated to air fiber connection. I do not know it’s this is just for my city only or applicable for whole of India.

It looks like it’s just one term which is being used that it’s “Airtel WiFi” or “Airtel Xstream Fiber” now

The updated thread title and first post makes sense to me now. Thanks for fixing it promptly bro! :D

Congrats on booking Airtel AirFiber connection. 👍👏

I think both Jio and Airtel have unified (single) fiber/airfiber booking page on their website now. The website booking and payment only generates a lead for your connection interest. The sales person visiting your place only confirms whether you'll get Fiber or AirFiber installed after feasibility checks.

Yes absolutely right. There is no way an end user can select if he wants Fiber or AirFiber from booking page.

I hope AirFiber would be as good as regular Fiber connection and Airtel proves its reliability.

Honestly there is no other option in the future as wireless technology would be made priority.

I don't believe that's possible. Airtel wifi implies both fiber and air fiber. When the booking page is common, the operator will check whether the premises are wired by fiber or not. If it's wired then fiber will be provided if not then Air fiber.

If Airtel was converting Air fiber to regular Fiber I could understand but why would any operator in its right mind convert an already wired premise into Air fiber and put more load on its wireless bandwidth which is still limited inspite of the millimetre wave spectrum? Nothing matches the performance of physical fiber and operators have feasibility of providing gigabyte speeds without any bandwidth constraints.

If the local authorities are not allowing to have overhead cables in the city like on light poles etc then what option do wired operators have ?
