I think if this trend continues then in near future we have to pay extra to watch even a single youtube video also :(

That means we need seperate packs to watch youtube, doing facebook or tweet i.e. seperate date packs for all websites. :s

Voip is a different issue. There will not be changes in other packs. Infact internet prices will only go down in future

Read it here bro

Airtel's move flies in the face of net neutrality, which is a hot topic round the globe. In the United States, for instance, there is a proposal to provide "fast lanes" for data intensive video-streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Simply put, internet services providers want to charge these companies extra for carrying their bits to the consumer, even though the consumers are already paying the service providers for internet access in the first place - See more at: Airtel wants you to pay extra for using Skype, Viber, more - Hindustan Times

But President Barack Obama came out strongly in support of net neutrality by saying that "a free and open internet was as critical to Americans' lives as electricity and telephone service and should be regulated like those utilities to protect consumers."

By charging in that way Airtel is actually charging Rs 10,000 Per GB On 2G Of VoIP Calls. Do u think it's justified ? :huh

If this airtel's move continues then get ready to pay seperately for different website.
VoIP is not different it's just the start of new era where ISP want us to pay for different service like VoIP, watching youtube, dailymotion, facebook etc

In USA ISP's charge Internet companies not the customers to get preferential data speeds to their website. The burden is passed on in a very small way to the customers by internet companies for eg Netflix charges $8/month now it has increased to $10/month which is miniscule considering the amount of data a customer uses.

Secondly Airtel is going to come up with voip plans which will be around the same price or a little cheaper than its current call rates. For eg if your local call costs 40p/min on voip it will cost around 35-40p so that its voice revenues dont go down. If they allow voice calls at discounted data rates you ll hardly pay 1p/min why will you do normal call you ll only do voip calls and Airtel will become bankrupt.

Hope airtel willn't extend this policy from VoIP to other internet activities such as watching videos

Every operator will follow, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea all 3 are friends so expect same thing from vodafone and idea too. Probably BSNL will be the only player who will not charge extra for the time being

why they doing this???

To prevent users from switching to VoIP based calling or you can say to prevent users from using Skype, Google Hangout, whatsapp based calling features. :dodgy

To save their business, they earn 80% of their revenues from voice calls if you start using voip at discounted data rates the telco companies will become bankrupt.

They did this for free calls via internet apps
(and they said that internet plans are just for browsing web/videos)

they did because all are using these services replacing sim networks calling

Airtel also said they will bring new type of plans for VoIP

***All Networks will do this soon

to prevent their user to use these(Skype) services instead of calling from sim....
