I don't understand how Sony has a monopoly. The important series they have will only be BCCI, la liga and FIFA. Other sports are not watched countrywide.

Stop comparing Ashes with a league which is 2 yrs old TNPL.
Ashes is biggest rivalry in Cricket which is going since 10 Decades and is njoyed through out world just like IND-PAK Clash.
Still Many from ROI users dont know what TNPL is all about, I agree it is very famous in South Sply Chennai but not so much popular in other states like Maharshtra, North India parts.
