Adding the rights to broadcast cricket in England and Australia across the subcontinent gave Sony Pictures Networks a dominant position in the sport but winning the rights to India would give it a monopoly, a senior company executive has told Reuters. India's huge market is a major draw for sponsors and advertisers, who often plan product launches around major cricket events and book advertising slots in advance, which in turn leads to a race between broadcasters to secure content.

Might be off topic, but speaking about monopoly, Anyone may win the rights, DD would continue receiving freebies citing 'Events of National importance'

I Have A Different Opinion Which Will Not Possibly Happen Or Might Happen..But A Very Less Chance To Happen..

TV Rights Predicted Scenario :

1. After Paying A Huge Sum For IPL,It Is Very Hard For Star To Buy The Entire Global Rights.

2.If Star Doesn't Bid For Global Rights,Then The Competition Lies In Separate Bids.

3.In Separate Bids,

TV RIGHTS - Tough Competition Between Star And Sony.In The Current Situations,It Can Go Anyway.

Viacom 18 Might Be A Surprise Bidder In This Category. There Is A Chance For Them To Bid.

DIGITAL RIGHTS - Hotstar May Loose Its Digital Rights

Since We Have Big Guns Like Google,Facebook,Reliance Jio And Amazon In This Category,It Is Very Likely That Hotstar Will Win.

Surprise Joint Bids :

Viacom 18 + Reliance Jio.

D Sport + Amazon/Jio/Others.

Have A Look On Viacom 18 For TV Rights And On Google,Facebook,Reliance Jio And Amazon For Digital Rights...They Might Surprise You.:):):)
