It's like 'a grand final' in Durban: Hussey

Durban: Batsman Mike Hussey says Australia still needs to play with freedom in the series-deciding one-day international against South Africa in Durban on Friday, even if the game is like "a grand final."

Australia has to win at Kingsmead for its first ODI series victory in South Africa since 2002 after the Proteas levelled the three-match series 1-1 with a strong win in Port Elizabeth.

Durban: Australia will make a final call on injury doubts Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh on Friday, hours ahead of the deciding one-day international against South Africa at Kingsmead.

Australia captain Michael Clarke said the pair would be assessed on the morning of the match as the tourists go in search of their first ODI series win in South Africa in nine years. The three-match series is level at 1-1.

Clarke hails Hussey after Durban effort

Mike Hussey steered Australia to a series-clinching three-wicket win in the third and final one-day
international against South Africa at Kingsmead on Friday. Australia were on top for most of the match but lost wickets at vital times in chasing a modest target of 223.

Hussey, though, stood firm in an innings of 45 not out, finishing the contest with a pull for six off Morne Morkel with 15 balls to spare. "There were a few nerves up in the change room but once again he's performed
under pressure," said Australian captain Michael Clarke of Hussey's effort.

Clarke said his team were now looking forward to playing two Test matches against South Africa, starting on
November 9. "We've seen throughout the one-day series how close the two teams are and I'm certain the Test series is going to be no different. But I'd like to come out on top there as well."

De Villiers fit to play Australia Tests

Johannesburg: South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers says he has recovered from surgery for a broken left hand and is in contention for the first Test against Australia next week.

De Villiers will play for provincial team Nashua Titans this weekend and said on Thursday "if I get through this game I will be ready for the first Test match."

De Villiers adds "the specialist was very happy and I'm ready to go."

South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee says De Villiers would not keep wicket for the Titans "as a risk reduction measure."

De Villiers, South Africa's new one-day and Twenty20 captain, missed the limited-overs series against Australia after breaking a bone in his left hand at the Champions League in India in September.

Australia ready to pounce on rusty South Africa

CAPE TOWN: Australia are ready to seize on any rustiness in South Africa's recently inactive set-up in the first match of a two-Test series that both recognize as a challenging obstacle in their advance into a new era.

The teams' mutual respect for each other's aggressive approach to the game is plentiful in the build-up to Wednesday's start at Newlands, but it's South Africa's lack of match practice that might prove the difference between the fierce rivals and give No. 4-ranked Australia -- under new captain Michael Clarke -- the edge over their higher-ranked host.

Now coached by Gary Kirsten, South Africa are No. 2 behind England in the Test rankings after India's post-Kirsten slide, but the Proteas have done little to prove they deserve that position having not played a Test since a drawn series with the Indians ended in Cape Town 10 months ago.

South Africa's players haven't just been quiet on the international front, either.
