Yes, sometimes clean install is better. I always do this if the update is major.

I guess, it will take a couple of days for battery to settle down as the new OS will be indexing stuff after installation, especially after fresh install.

According to my experience we should back up whole data on PC and then go for Hard reset via iTunes. Not only we get latest version bt also there is no chance of any bloatware.
Process is certainly cumbersome. As far iOS 12 is concerned it has made my device fast bt battery seems to be draining a little fast also
I agree this is the best way however I prefer quickly updating from the Settings > General > Software Update

Chances are very low. After a fresh update if there are a lot of apps or data in the device, a new iOS will take some time to adapt to that and we see our iPhone running slow bt not the same thing with battery. Moreover there is not any mention iOS 12 description abt battery. My phone is undoubtably fastas Apple said would be bt at expense of battery though not a big issue as there is only neglible bt noticeable change

Indexing does take some battery as it runs in background. Right now my phone’s battery is at 70% and screen on time is 3 hours. Looks like battery life has improved. I have turned off almost all battery drainers.

iOS12 is working fine on my 5s. In fact, I feel that there's some performance improvements. It's sad,no measurement app.

I have been using 12 since beta. Battery consumption overnight is very less and no change in the regular usage consumption.
My battery is draining marginally faster bt the performance is gr8 , no bug at all.
In my opinion every device reacts differently to these updates. I have seen a lot of complaints abt battery draining , a certain App crashing or no improvement in performance bt for me it was a good experience.
By the way 12.1 beta has been released have u updated?

Yeah performance on old devices was the priority in this version and it's easily noticeable. The keyboard pops up much quicker when we go to the typing window. Not even a single app crashed on me even in beta. I reported a couple of bugs though and they squashed them in the next release and duly informed me, didn't expect that from Apple. I didn't update to 12.1 yet as it's developer beta version.
