What's the latest Android and how many devices are using it? Forget about it. How many devices are using the yesteryear's Android Oreo at least? Not many. Most are running either marshmallow or nougat.

Yeah, this is where android unfortunately really lags behind ios
If there was only Google's version of Android without the involvement of OEM in the software, it would have been easy. It's impossible to push new version to those huge number of devices with different types of hardware and skins and whatever. Google's version is only Pixel and they are always updated to the latest version at least for two years. Even Android one devices lag a bit in the updates.
