Airtel M Commerce Services Ltd (AMSL), a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, today announced a tie-up with Jammu and Kashmir Bank to offer 'airtel money' services through the bank’s 800 Khidmat Centres across the state.

Airtel announced the launch of a whole range of m-Commerce solutions such as Mobile Money Transfer (MMT), Postpaid Bill Payment and Prepaid Recharge on the mobile phone.

Airtel partnered with JK Bank to enable these payments. 800 Khidmat centers established across Jammu and Kashmir will work as a distribution channel for airtel money.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO m-Commerce, Bharti Airtel, Sriraman Jagannathan said, that by augmenting the reach of airtel money in the state, this alliance will further the financial inclusion agenda, and bring more and more customers into the banking fold.

“We see airtel money playing a pivotal role in bringing unbanked million Indians into the banking fold. We are now honored to work with J&K Bank to proliferate the power of this service into deeper pockets of Jammu and Kashmir. As part of this association, Airtel will leverage the reach of J&K Bank’s Khidmat Centres towards creating an alternative distribution channel for airtel money, thus enabling wider access and adoption of this service to the customers,” he said.

Calling the tie-up a momentous occasion, Jagannathan said that it will bring a new development in common people lives and will provide an alternative to cash services and bring valuable services to the people of the state.

‘Mobile payment services are new to the Valley but in the coming years it will flourish and we will be able to reach to every corner of the Valley,” he added.

Commenting on the occasion, O P Sharma, Executive President, J&K Bank said, “J&K Bank has taken the Khidmat Centres e-governance project to take information and knowledge to all corners of the state. Our tie-up with Bharti Airtel to offer airtel money at our Khidmat outlets is in line with vision and will play a crucial role in extending banking capabilities to even those without a bank account,” Sharma said.

Sharma while extending his full support said that the introduction of services is very important but the sustainability is the most important thing.

“It is very difficult make people use these services in the rural areas who don’t have much awareness. It is a happy moment for us that we will be providing airtel services to people. We will be providing all support and expand our common service centres for the benefit of people and aitrel should always be hand in hand,” Sharma said.

Common Service Centres known as Khidmat in J&K have been established by J&K Bank under the e-Governance programme of Ministry of IT, Government of India that aim to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural Jammu & Kashmir.
