Next year, Apple will be celebrating its 10th anniversary, but it’s not just the iPhone 8 that will be hogging the limelight. Apple is believed to be launching as many as three iPads next year , and yet another report has added more weight to this notion.

Citing ‘Taiwan-based supply chain makers’,
Digitimes reports that in addition to the 9.7-inch iPad Air and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple will also be launching a 10.5-inch iPad. In terms of size there’s not a lot of difference between a 9.7-inch and 10.5-inch display, which makes Apple’s decision a tad surprising. But according to the report, “Apple is launching the 10.5-inch iPad mainly because 10-inch and larger tablets have been popular among enterprises and the education sector in the US,” the report says. Its existing 9.7-inch iPad may be too small and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro too expensive for such procurement.”

A logical speculation is that by introducing a 10.5-inch iPad, Apple could push the 9.7-inch iPad further down the price segment. This also leaves the fate of the 7.9-inch iPad mini in the air (pun unintented!). The report further adds that mass production of this rumored 10.5-inch iPad will start next month, which means there is plenty time for it to be ready by Apple’s March 2017 event. Apple is expected to sell as many as two million units of the 10.5-inch iPad in the first quarter of 2017, and the overall sales for the year could reach 5-6 million.

While much of the details are scarce, previous reports have hinted at a ‘revolutionary’ design. Leaks have pointed towards a bezel-less design. KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also gone on record to say that next year’s iPads will be powered by new A10X chipsets made by TSMC and built on 10nm fabrication process.

With next year being a milestone in Apple’s journey, the company is widely expected to ditch its tradition and launch an iPhone 8 instead. Next year’s iPhones too are expected to be launched in three sizes — 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch. As far as the design is concerned, the upcoming iPhones are expected to opt for a glass design, which would help in adding wireless charging support. If true, Apple would be returning to a glass design after the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s.

In terms of specifications, the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 variant is expected to come with OLED display and a dual-camera setup. While the 5-inch variant will retain the dual-camera setup, it will opt for a LCD display instead. Rumors also suggest that, both rear cameras on the iPhone 8 will come with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and have a redesigned telephoto lens. The 4.7-inch will be the cheapest of the three variants and will come with a LCD display and single camera sensor.
