MUMBAI: Diet soda seems to be a dying beverage breed. Despite having been around for the longest time in the market, diet sodas fallen out of favour with consumers and redemption isn’t in sight. Ever since carbonated drinks hit the market, countless inventors, entrepreneurs and engineers have tried to enhance the taste, flavour and packaging of the product while also trying to reduce the sugar content.

The beginning of the diet refreshment was in 1952, when Kirsch Bottling in Brooklyn, New York launched a sugar-free ginger ale called No-Cal, which was designed for diabetics, not dieters, and distribution remained local. In 1962, American soft drink company, Dr Pepper released a diet(etic) version of its soft drink, although it sold slowly due to the misconception that it was meant solely for diabetic consumption.

It was only in 1963 when Coca-Cola saw the power and joined the diet soft drink market with Tab, which proved to be a huge success.

Airtel offers unlimited calling, 100 SMS per day, 6GB data for 180 days at Rs 995

The Airtel Rs 995 recharge plan will offer 1GB 3G/4G data to the customers daily, in addition to unlimited local, national, and roaming outgoing calls for a long-term validity of 180 days, i.e., for six months. The customers will also get 100 SMSes per day for the given validity period. This plan will take on Jio’s Rs 999 recharge plan that comes with 60GB unlimited 4G data, where the data speed is reduced to 64kbps on exhaustion of the data limit. The Jio Rs 999 recharge plan comes with unlimited VoLTE calls and 100 SMSes per day, in addition to free complimentary access to Jio apps.

Good News ASUS unveils new AI-powered Zenfone 5, 5Z smartphones

ZenFone 5Z and ZenFone 5 are the first-ever models to have Artificial Intelligence (AI) and feature "all-screen" displays with a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The new line-up also includes ZenFone 5 Lite.

The price of ZenFone 5Z starts at 479 euros and the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE) and features up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard stoarge.

ZenFone 5 has a dual-camera system and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 636 mobile platform. ZenFone5Z and ZenFone 5 come with dual-camera systems that adapt and learn, the company claimed.

Discussion Only 3% House Holds in India pay for streaming video services: report

India is at the bottom of the top 25 countries analysed in the research at the end of 2017. US and Canada lead the chart with 59% and 51% of the households subscribing to streaming video services.

The report further noted that the number of households worldwide which pay for streaming video services such as Netflix and Amazon Video has now broken through the 250 million mark.

Leading TV manufacturers like Sony, LG, Panasonic and Samsung are set to increase prices of their LED/OLED sets by up to 7 per cent to offset impact of increase in customs duty. Some of them are also expecting a short-term impact on sales and the Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) has already initiated a dialogue with the government to roll back the duty hike. Panasonic is going for a hike of 2-7 per cent on its range of LED/OLED TVs.

Breaking Javelin Thrower Davinder Kang Fails Dope Test, Stares At 4-Year Ban

Top Indian javelin thrower Davinder Singh Kang has been suspended provisionally by the world athletics governing body after he returned positive for a steroid in an out-of-competition test last week. The 29-year-old Kang's dope sample was taken by the officials of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the IAAF's new anti-doping body which started operations last year, four days ago in Patiala. It was found to contain a banned steroid and Kang now faces the prospect of being banned for four years. In that case, his career could well be over.

Good News Samsung Networks bags new 4G LTE network expansion contract from Reliance Jio

BARCELONA: Samsung Networks has bagged a new 4G LTE network expansion contract from its sole customer in India, Reliance Jio , to increase the telco's 4G network penetration from around 75% to 99% by Diwali this year.

Also, the Korean telecom gear maker is also providing network technologies such as massive multiple-input, multiple-output (massive MIMO), and network virtualisation to the 4G entrant to help it improve network speeds and customer experience.

Both the companies have also teamed up to roll out India's first narrowband Internet of Things (IoT) network in the country. The commercial network is currently live in Mumbai, India.
