Reliance-Disney to stop completely free IPL cricket streaming in India

The Reliance-Disney joint venture will no longer offer completely free streaming for IPL cricket matches and will adopt a hybrid model where subscription kicks in after content consumption reaches a threshold, three sources told Reuters on Thursday.

The entity will also launch a new rebranded streaming app, with plans starting at 149 rupees, said the first source.

Apple Inc. is set to announce that it’s expanding the TV+ streaming video service to Android phones for the first time, according to people familiar with the move.

The company will unveil an Android app for TV+ as early as Wednesday, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the move isn’t yet public. Apple TV+, which launched in 2019, had been reserved for the company’s own operating system and third-party TV platforms like Roku.

Discussion Airtel MD calls for yet another tariff repair in the industry

Bharti Airtel hinted at another tariff hike on Friday, citing the lowest ARPU for telecom service providers in India.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, said during the third-quarter investor call that further tariff repair is necessary for the industry to achieve financial stability.

“I want to underscore that ARPU in India continues to be the lowest globally. Further tariff repair is needed for the industry to be financially stable and deliver reasonable returns on a sustained basis,” said Vittal.
