Those who have withdrawn ₹one crore or more in cash from banks or post offices upto 31 August will be liable to a 2% tax deducted at source (TDS) on further cash withdrawals from 1 September as a new provision in tax law kicks in from next month, the government said on Friday.

The Rs 100 note may soon get a shine, literally. The Reserve Bank of India is planning to introduce Rs 100 notes with a coat of varnish on a trial basis. The central bank is doing so in order to increase lifespan of these notes and if the experiment succeeds, then the RBI will slowly replace all Rs 100 notes with the new varnished-coated notes.

The plans to introduced varnished Rs 100 notes are mentioned in the RBI's annual report, which was released on Thursday. The proposal is part of several interesting plans the RBI has for currency notes.
