MUMBAI: Google has announced that its video sharing service YouTube is all set to go offline in India. Users in India will soon be able to save videos offline and watch them anywhere, anytime without a data connection.
The announcement was made at an event in Gurgaon, immediately after Google launched its low-cost Android One initiative in the country.
Speaking at the event, YouTube executive Caesar Sengupta said, “YouTube is popular here. You watch some videos again and again. How awesome would it be if you could keep watching them again and again without having to pay for data, and take the videos with you wherever you go? Within the coming few weeks, much of YouTube will be available offline in India. This is huge, and our users will really, really like this.
You can download a video once, save it to your phone, and watch it again and again.”
Without giving any timeline, Google announced that the service will be coming soon. The company launched Android One smartphones that Google is hoping would strengthen its dominance in the affordable smartphone segment in India.
Apart from making YouTube available offline, Google has also tied up with Airtel to provide 200MB of free data every month and also let users download app and software updates from Google for free.
