Guys

I'm wondering about this thing since many years. I have seen in many Hollywood movies and English serials that whenever someone dies, his/her family members behave very formal on the funeral.

Like a few days back when I was watching "Black Mirrors" on Colors Infinity, in an episode a girl's husband died and when someone gave the news to the girl, she didnt cry. I was surprised when in the next scene, the girl came with very well dress and a glass of drink in her hands.

I have seen such scenes many times in past and I always wonder why those people behave so formally on funerals? They drink and talk like they have come to a party.

I cant understand why do they do like this?

^^ I understand but why can they be so formal on their relatives funeral? They dont cry, they behave very politely. Also whats the meaning of drink and kind of party at funerals? Everyone is well suited and has glass of drink in hands?

I cant understand it.

Bro i think they will drink for purpose of sadness

I think funerals are considered as celebration of life in those countries. Most westerners want to be cremated in an orderly fashion and consider moaning as a sign of incompleteness of their life.

It was not always like that. During Victorian period, in UK, mourning was considered as a sign of love and importance of the person. During the war period death reminded people of an imperfect world and was causing too much disruption in community life. They slowly decided that communities function better if they make life look normal by behaving in a dignified manner in all circumstances.

The use of pleasure to subvert the pain is common western trend. So wine or rich food is bought or given. However some modern psychologist in UK are considering this method wrong and emotionally bad in the long term.
