But from 2004 _2017, all the odi matches were shown by Doordarshan ,they can be arrangements between private broadcast team with prasar bharati , Olympics and other global event were also covered in past ,every year government allocated 2000 cr for Doordarshan

Back than digitalization didn't happen. Terrestrial network were available unencrypted for all TVs .

DD doesn't need to bid for anything now, because it gets premium rights for free now owing to Sports, Act, by paying a meagre 75%, (they keep 25% of the ad revenue without incurring any cost), of the generated ad revenue to official broadcaster, yes they say its available only for DD free dish, but now a days they've started gimmicks like DD Bharti 1.0, DD Urdu 1.0, These 1.0's are available throughout cable and DTH Television.
Also somehow they've gained right to first refusal for rights owned by OTT platforms wherein they entitle themselves as TV right holders for broadcasts not available by default on TV.
If any rights holder tries to give a fight, courts are there to protect DD.
When DD is getting premium sports broadcasts for free why would they go and buy the same?

Point accurate, but around 30 percent below bpl line, still government should focus on available on national channel regarding all sports not limited to dth , sports feed, government missing trick to have joint production with private broadcast it also have multiple options for telecast on its channels, I hope ott platform of prasar bharati will provide common people sports coverage without any subscription

As follower of Doordarshan , current state of affairs really make sad, early they bought rights of 1998 mini world cup, 1999 ,1996, world cup, Olympics and CWG, Asian games, Euro Cup, beating combined star and ESPN groups, they are actually wasting there huge potential for feed from compulsory feed , if exclusive rights given to prasar Bharati it would be game changer for common people

But that doesn't stop for bidding rights for national importance, Olympics and other sports activities where india has great scope, it was duty of prasar bharati to give free feed to commonpeople apart from dth

I saw an article yesterday where prasar bharti sources revealed that they will go all out to get sports rights for their upcoming OTT app.
