While progress on WhatsApp when it comes to adding new features was always a bit slow, its massive user base means that no matter how small an update, it will impact usage for millions. With that said, those who signed up for WhatsApp’s beta program are now seeing a new version, tagged v20.16.80, that reveals an added option for video calling.

The fresh new update available only for users who have signed up to WhatsApp’s beta program shows a changelog with the usual bug fixes, but also the addition of the much-awaited video calling feature. For now it is only the option to make a video call that is available, and the service has not gone live yet.

Tapping to place a usual VoIP WhatsApp call now opens a dialogue box with two options, (Audio call, Video call) instead of simply calling the contact using data connectivity.

The changelog clearly mentions, “You get the option to make video calls, that’s not activated yet but soon would be available for everyone to make video calls.”

As far as the rest of the features go, there is no major visual change apart from the usual bug fixes to this version of the update.

The team at WhatsApp recently updated the company’s web app called WhatApp Web. The document sharing feature will be seen under the attachments icon, along with sharing photos, videos and so on. We could easily share a document, now making WhatsApp for Web even more productive. However, to share documents, both user and recipient should have an updated app.

The single largest messaging App on smart phones WhatsApp, has recently rolled out updates like WhatsApp for PC apart from the previous feature of WhatsApp web. The messaging app developers has hinted towards another update of Video Calling feature in the app, which will excite all the cross-platform messaging users. The option to video call has already been provided in the WhatsApp Messenger app for Android for beta testers in the 2.16.80 version.
As observed in the app, the video calling feature will be accessible in the same way as the voice call feature in the app. The users will just have to tap the call icon on top-right end in the chat window and tapping the icon will now give option to choose from voice call and video call. Earlier tapping that icon would directly make a voice call to the other person. (Also Read: WhatsApp Users: 11 kinds of WhatsApp Friends you have in your contact list!)

The option is currently available only in chat window. Probably in future updates we might see the option in the ‘phone calls menu’ just as we get the WhatsApp voice call option. The Facebook owned-messaging app has introduced a lot of features for their users like end-to-end encryption, text formatting, document sharing and UI updates also got thumbs up from the users and tech critics.

Though the feature is not functional and you cannot place a video call from the Beta version, we are sure this teaser image of video calling would surely excite and leave you waiting eagerly. At least the options of choosing between voice call and video call gives us positive hopes that the soon we will be able to video communicate through Whatsapp Messenger. (Also Read:
