Yahoo Mail app for Android now supports fingerprint recognition for security. According to Android Police, the Yahoo Mail update is available on the Play Store. The update will allow users to access Yahoo Mail app using fingerprint scanner on their smartphone. You can make changes to your accounts as well. Apart from fingerprint security support, users can set a custom password for Yahoo Mail app on their devices as well. The update also brings several other changes like the ability to make changes to account information and edit contact info, right from the app. Other features include a new preview tab that will show videos or links in the app itself.

The update comes at a time when Yahoo is facing scrutiny over a cyber attack that exposed the email credentials of 500 million users. The hack could be the largest to hit a single email provider. It is also a blow to Yahoo’s new parent company Verizon, which is in the process of completing its deal to acquire Yahoo for close to $5 billion. Yahoo claims it has over 1 billion monthly to users over its multitude of services, though the exact number of email users in not known.

Yahoo blamed the data breach on a “state-sponsored actor” but has not provided any technical information supporting that claim. “We don’t know a lot. We don’t know how the bad guys broke in. We don’t know when Yahoo first found out,” said Jeremiah Grossman, chief of security strategy for SentinelOne and a former information security officer at Yahoo.
