what should be number for bands that handset must have to support for 5G connections?????

Solution
Instead of looking for number of bands, look for these exact bands...

Must have Bands:-
n40 (Jio planning), n3 (Airtel planning), n78 (All)

For Coverage:-
n5 (Jio), n8 (Airtel), n28 (All)

Good to have - But NOT a must:-
[1] n1, n41 (VoId if they get cash and ready to invest),
[2] There are some other bands like in 600MHz as well as n77 which will come for auction in India, but much much later.
[3] If buying ultra premium phone, look for availability of mmWaves support as well, not just for future proofing, but also for Intl Roaming.

I don't think airtel or jio will use n5 or n8 band or n28 for 5g in beginning 2 to 3 years may be after that

@asi First of all, it depends on how DoT price the Band 28 spectrum. If telcos feel, its still costly to go n28 PAN INDIA (mostly Airtel), they will use DSS to use same band for 4G as well as 5G. In that case, 5G support on these bands are necessity, especially for indoor coverage.

Like you have said, after 2 to 3 years, they will use these bands for VoNR, till then DSS for filling the coverage gaps, imho..

If jio is planning for n40 and airtel for n3 then doesnt it handicaps end user .I mean if a particular handset doesnt have support for n40 and n3 only then it would support only airtel sim and not others right ??????

When 4G was rolled in my city, by my operator, bsnl, my Redmi Note 4 not supported. Pathetically 3G was stopped and left with 2G and 4G.. Its better to go for 5G mobiles only after 5G is rolled out. Will 4G will be dropped and 2G and 5G only will be existing?
