- Wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. Any bike helmet you wear should cover your forehead, have adjustable straps, and be the right size for your head. The helmet in use should not be a damaged one, as it may be unable to protect you in the event of an accident.
- Adjust your bicycle to fit. Stand over your bicycle, there should be 1 to 2 inches between you and the top tube (bar) if using a road bike and 3 to 4 inches if a mountain bicycle. The seat should be leveled, front to back.
- The seat height should be adjusted to allow a slight bend at the knee when the leg is fully extended.
- The handlebar height should be at the same level with the seat. Riding a bike that fits your body is an important factor in preventing accidents and keeping you safe. To determine if your bike is correctly sized for your height, we recommend straddling the top of it with both feet on the ground.
