The BJP today demanded action against JVM candidate Ajoy Kumar for allegedly seeking support of Naxalite zonal commander Samarji.

Speaking at a press meet, BJP state president and Jamshedpur parliamentary by-election candidate Dineshanand Goswami said the Election Commission and East Singhbhum district administration should take cognisance of the case and initiate proceedings against Kumar.

He added that the police do not hesitate to arrest villagers who speak to Naxalites or offer them food. In this case, the JVM candidate's conversations with a Naxalite leader were recorded on a CD. "The EC should probe the case and take action," Goswami said, adding JVM was trying to influence the bypoll results by seeking the support of a banned outfit.

Criticising JVM chief Babulal Marandi for questioning the source of the CD, Goswami said the source was not important.

"Whether Kumar spoke to Samarji or not is more important. If it was not Samarji, than who was the JVM candidate talking to?" he said.

, adding the former IPS officer had accepted that it was his voice in the recording.

Questioning Marandi's statement that talking to someone was not a crime, Goswami said the BJP would talk to the district authorities keeping in mind the sensitivity of the case. "The CD issue is a threat to security and democracy of the country," he stated. The BJP nominee also said senior leader Sarayu Roy would answer if the district administration wanted to know where the CD came from.

He also challenged Kumar to come out with a reply on whether naxalite leader Prashant Bhuiyan was in town. Or, did he meet him and sought his support to `manage' the byelections. The BJP candidate said revelations in the cassette indicates that the JVM has lost confidance in facing the electorates.

Goswami added that they'll lodge a complaint with the EC on how much money the JVM paid to five Bollywood artists Manoj Tiwary, Urvashi Sharma, Neetu Chandra, Iqbal Durrani and Prawal Davan, who were pulled in for campaigning. "We want to know whether the JVM candidate has included this payment in his poll expenses," he said.

Senior counsel Udit Sarkar, who is the convenor of the BJP poll conduct committee, also demanded action action Kumar. There are several CLA (Criminal Law Amendment) cases pending in Jamshedpur. Scores of villagers have been arrested and subsequantly sent to jail under CLA. But why Kumar was being spared, he asked.

He demanded that since Kumar has accepted talking over the phone and it is recorded on the CD, cases under 17CLA and 121 and 130 sections of the IPC should be lodged against him. The BJP will also fight the case in the court of law.
