After Google's announced acquisition of Motorola Mobility, another important piece of Android-related news has hit the stands – Samsung has hired Steve ‘Cyanogen’ Kondik, of Android custom ROM ‘CyanogenMod’ fame. While Kondik has revealed he will still be working on CyanogenMod, just how his new post as Samsung Mobile Software Engineer will affect the Korean giant’s future Android devices is obviously still to be seen – hopefully a cleaner, lighter, and more CyanogenMod-inspired skin than Samsung’s TouchWiz?
Those wondering if this means CyanogenMod officially belongs to Samsung, or will be 'corrupted' by the company, needn’t worry, at least based on Kondik’s reassurances of the custom ROM’s independence and safety. In the meanwhile, Samsung has reportedly also delivered a bunch of Samsung Galaxy S II devices to CM developers to work with – a sign that the newfound bonhomie extends far enough to be exciting.
